I got a Yamaha guitar: What can you tell me about it?

Postby Shadowsong » Sun Mar 27, 2011 8:34 am

Now for $25 don't be too hard on it but it has seen better days & maybe even a smashing.

Looks like the neck may have been repaired & it has some other damages I'm going to try to fix but unless it vibrates I don't think that the body damage should effect it...well good enough for me anyway..

Oh its a Yamaha
KH 14025 Made in Japan

First of all it looks like a black les paul but it has a different shape head which technically might not be good as it tends to elongate the high strings.
Weighs 8 1/2 lbs so it must be solid bod but guess you can say it has a thin neck which again isn't that good.

I got it pretty much in tune & it has nice sound but I don't have a way of checking the pick ups.
A neighbor has an amp so I am going to see if he'll plug it in.

It was very dusty & I'm going to try to clean it up & repair the laquer in some places.
Guess I'll leave the Metallica scratched into the back alone...LOL

Anyway I'm having fun with it trying to remember the chords as its been a long time since my guitar lessons
but still remember the riff of Smoke On The Water.
:D

Any guitar people wish to comment?

After a bit of struggle got it tight.

Pick ups raise & lower

Looks like it originally has a wider neck
& it has been mentioned that it might be a les paul body copy w Yamaha SG 7 neck
not original to the guitar as you can see the original neck was wider where it fits into the body.

How do clean shine & protect laquer such as that of a guitar?

Thanks

thanks I love just looking at it.

Its ha\eavy though & I have petite hands so its better its not a wide neck like the Les Pauls which some say are harder to play.

I joined a Les Paul forum & they have wiring diagrams & tech things but I'd be happy to get some MR advice

:P

The Yamalespaul is now in the hands of guitar tech Andy Brauer.

Here's the scoop:

Yamaha head taiwan KH
tuners yamaha japan

Said Neck is actually a nice neck

Glad to here it "intonates???

Anyway that he was surprised with.

Body has some les paul components

The lowest metal part saddle? is from a 62 les paul jr

2 control knobs are vinatage les paul & one modern & one replacement.

He's going to do his best with it on a low budget.

He;s a fun guy & knows his stuff.

I have to say there was another guitar that came in & played acoustically & mine's sound blew his away.

Clean clear crsip round resonance

So for $25 I got almost $200 in les paul parts

I luv it!!!

I'll have it back in a week to 10 days

It's done
It actually was in pretty good condition.
There are issues but that's for another time.

Its got beautiful tone & acoustically it sounded better to "me" than a 09 reissue of a 59 les paul.

Wow, I love it!!!
