Reality is that this is not a Perry driven band now and people need to try and sever that
connection, as far as new music is concerned. He has the soul and emotion to deliver their
music but if people don't want to hear it, they won't. I understand, but it is what it is and
I'm happy to have what we do. I think Tantra is a stunning song and I'm not trying to make
a Perry connection on it. AP owns the song.
Agreed. He doesn't sound like Perry whatsoever on this album and he's really stepped up. Some may not dig Arnel, but I just don't see how you can argue with a voice like this guy has. Amazing stuff this guy is singing. He's singing it with heart, range, soul, and power.

She's A Mystery: A Southern romantic vibe going on here. This is one of those songs I was talking about to where Arnel's voice is distinguished into his own voice phenomena here. Come to think of it, I really dig She's a Mystery. Like I said, Southern-folk romance and the way Arnel sings it feels so light and so unbelievably clear. I also like the guitar in this. A break from the over-temporized guitar is kind of a breath of fresh air and right when you long for it, BOOM it hits and brings you right back into a rocker mentality. The killer note Arnel hits at 5:36 is mightily impressive! Very cool tune. 7.4/10

Chain of Love (should have been 1st as it builds before beating your head in)
When you let Someone (This sound sound so Evolution era during the verses to me)
Tantra edited (took the disney crap from the front and the end out and you have a different song and maybe my fav)
Edge of the moment
Resonate
Ritual
City of hope
She's a mystery (on the fence a little)
Venus.
8 of 13. Thats a damn good ratio these days. Well 7.75 to be technical from the edits to tantra.

That's bullshit. His vocals are far from "thin throughout". We all get you ladies love to piss all over (don't do it, beshad) on the current Journey, but the fact is that Arnel is brining vocals to the J-boyz that Perry would never be able to do - not now or even ten years ago.
This is a decent effort and one of the first Journey records I can play in the car without having my buddies calling me a fag.

Foul!!!
You should never say Deen. And Hugo in the same sentence. Not if you are speaking about singing. Deen is a great singer, please don't forget it.
Play ball.

AH! HERE is the issue- You're a fan of Perry's SOLO career an not Journey.
ROR was basically his first solo record, TBF his last.

RoR is shit - that's a given. But I gotta say that Neal's tone on TBF is my favorite tone ever. The WYLAW solo is just pure awesomeness.

With that example, then Eclipse is a Schon solo record, no?
(Btw, didn't Street Talk come out before ROR?)

Well, but if those are your favorites, that'd explain a lot why don't like Eclipse. Those two albums are so much closer to Perry's solo releases than anything Journey did.
I actually like both records, but as far as Journey, they are so far removed from what they were about.
ROR has some classic tunes on it. TBF has a few good songs, but it's the only Journey album where I skip tunes (On Generations, I skip Ross's tune though).

I'm hearing some in Someone @3:45, maybe the huskier Perry

Yup, no doubts about that. If only Arnel were given the chance before, Lights in 1988 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVRPM4SzCFM, no strain of anything

Yeah, except the pronunciation of the words!![]()
He really does have some great upper range here, but he doesn't have near as much rasp in his voice. After listening day after day to Eclipse, I've changed my mind about the album. I'm already tired of it, and I just don't care for the vocals.
No matter how I try to get into it, this band is just not the same without Perry. His signature layers of vocals are nowhere to be found on this album. Go back and listen to the songs he stacked and layered his vocals on... they were perfect. They just don't get it.

This ain't Perry's album dick breath. Again, people are looking for the Perry sound. That was never what this album was about.
And you want to hold Arnel accountable for the lack of vocal layering, which is a studio process?

I agree, but which song are you referring to?
