I can agree with this, I guess it's just all in what vocal inflections you prefer. I'll take soul over tenor any day of the week.

Not to pick on Steveforever or anything, but as far as "sexy" for fronting the band for the ladies, from a male's point of view, he looked like one of those homeless guys from the streets pushing a stolen buggy from the local boarded up K-Mart 9 miles down the road

Arnel's got a great voice, but can you seriously compare stage presence and sex appeal to JSS? Arnel front's Journey well at this point in time and has that legacy sound, but as for killer frontman, there is NO comparison IMO. Seems lots of guys like Arnel and lots of the ladies like JSS when it comes stage presence/frontman. LOL must be a testostarone thing.

I like him too, one of my all-time favorites of his........ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbhXmSBlS_U (Eddie and Ronnie's vocal blend remind me alot of Rollie/Perry's early stuff)

But he's got no where near the power nor delivery JSS has. :? Heart, ears, whatever.........hell, I can detect emotions write down to my toes on a well delivered soulful song. :P

Have listened to JSS since he sang for Yngwie, but he isn't a tenor, and you need a tenor to sing the dirty dozen. I remember an interview where JSS was saying that Jon told him that his voice would eventually open up, and he would be able to hit the notes. It just never happened. It's simple why JSS isn't in Journey...he can't sing the classics the way they were recorded. The only singer who could demand wholesale key changes and/or arrangements would be the guy that will never be back in Journey.

Which is precisely why this thread is ridiculous. You hit the nail on the head with this very solid post.
Hopefully this reality shuts down future bullshit of this variety.

Here is a test for Journey. A genuine offer. Have JSS cover the entire Eclipse album and if JSS is the right
singer for the album, Journey can fire AP and I won't say a word.

From the beginning, there are people who were not going with this program (AP), with extreme prejudices and preconceived attitudes, without listening
to a single note from this lineup. I've gotten this info out of people I know personally and there is no talking to them. It is what it is. So sorry for them.

Whoa whoa whoa Why is this thread anymore ridiculus than any other?

I posed a question based on what I think is a valid query. Schon made the statement that Jeff was let go because he did fit the legacy sound. In my opinion, and apparently the bands as well, Eclipse isn't legacy sound at all. I think it would be a viable alternative to have JSS in the chair on this album. To me, this isnt a Journey album. Just posting a thread to be part of the fan base and to get others opinions.

Schon, Cain, sound like Journey.... it's a Journey album.

And ok they said they wanted to keep their legacy sound so they fired JSS. They need someone who can sing like Perry live because that's how they make money! Eclipse has made them very little (I suspect) money but that was never the objective because they can afford to not make money off the album aslong as they can tour the world.

For the record, I think Arnel is a fantastic singer. He does an amazing job with the group. Just wondered what this cd would have sounded like with jss.

Where the money is...

Postby yandtguy » Wed Jun 22, 2011 6:09 am

Journey makes their money on the road. JSS, despite being a nice guy and having an engaging stage presence, does not have the voice which is able to recreate what we hear on the Perry albums. Eclipse doesn't have to sound like classic Journey because they will only play 1 or 2 songs from it (if you are lucky...and maybe none by the end of the tour). Don't fool yourselves. He wasn't fired because he couldn't be a Perry clone in the studio. He was fired because he couldn't be a Perry clone on the road.

Once again, I agree with you. JSS is a baritone. Deen had to do too many fills onstage. Journey was built around a tenor. I do like Jeff outside of Journey, but he didn't fit. Besides, it all turned out well for him as he seems to be enjoying what he's doing now.
