Did you see what I added to my post? Could save you for a while.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

#1 thing I've learned in tech-class was ALWAYS document your error's and then re-search them. Someone out there almost GURANTEED has the same problem as you and it's documented so Google is your friend.

When was the last time you updated your anti-virus on your computer? Most of the time, people's computers get attacked and it's because of their anti-virus default program's running out. It seems like you were on top of that though and that couldn't be the problem but just curious. The modem, file sharing and Networking shouldn't be a problem, all that really does is allow you to share files within your computer with other host computers on your Network.

Peer to Peer Networking is usually used in small business's so people can share printers, files, etc so that shouldn't make a difference that you have file sharing on unless you have two computers in the house and you set up file sharing to drop data from one folder to the other from upstairs, to downstairs so that shouldn't have anything to do with your problem. But, welcome to the world of computers. Keep updating us and we'll figure out the problem eventually. We have some good tech's in here to help you through.

Right now it seems like either a driver problem that your system needs updates for and the OS isn't seeing it, or your hard-drive is taking a beating in one form or another. If you installed any programs recently or anything of that matter, make sure it's compatible with what your OS can run, like 32-bit or 64-bit, etc.



Avast antivirus,lots of issues right now they are trying to work out.lots of people with it are experiencing these blue screen issues.also some memory ones as well.seems to be a bug in there right now causing lots of problems for many.all this started a week or two ago for me along with what loos like hundreds of others.the first two or three pages of the forum right now are nothing but people having computer issues due to avast.

VERY interesting you say this! I have people on my FaceBook who keep sending me pictures of the same BSOD. I was taking aback since it seems TONS of people are getting the same thing we are getting but in different CPU perspectives. I thought today "Man, this has to be a bug somewhere in Microsoft." Interesting that AVAST consumers are experiencing this and it could be the AVAST software going HAY-WIRE. Thanks for the update, hope it helps out all of us in the long-run. In my case, I STILL can't boot to my Vista OS. Tried everything possible other than a clean install and that may not even work since I need to track down Windows Ultimate, which I want to install. Crazy I've seen these blue-screens daily without any progress.



i went ahead and started all over from scratch from the first day i got the computer.did all the gazillion windows updates and changed my antivirus.still once or twice a day i'm getting these windows recovered from a shutdown so i'm going to do another memory test.every time i do a memory test it passes fine so i'm thinking maybe there just might be some bug making things go haywire.


Super Anti-Virus, Malware-Bytes or CC-Cleaner would of picked up any bug by now and terminated it. If one of those cleaners don't pick it up, the second one certainly will. I still think it's your hard-drive that's waining on you. You may have to bite the bullet and do a clean install of Windows or re-format the hard-drive.

Ftloperry, check your monitor settings. There could be an automatic thing going on with it and it is set IDL if the computer isn't touched for a certain amount of time. Even try unhooking your monitor's cable and plugging it back in. Also, make sure the monitor and screen is on. Check the simple things first before you invest in another monitor when there could be nothing wrong with it.

Any time I've ever had a cyclic redundancy check error on hard drives, CDs, and any other type of storage media, it's almost always been because the disk has some corruption.


The problem is most definitely with the hard drive, and corruption (maybe involving bad sectors) can account for everything he's described so far. Mike, check your System log under Event Viewer (Control Panel / Administrative Tools) and look for any red-flagged errors that say 'Disk'.

Toning down the brightness didn't work. The internet provider in my town said that maybe dust could cause this issue and said to buy some canned air and try that. So well give that a try before I buy a new monitor. I always make sure to dust around the computer and the monitor. We shall see if that works. Thanks for you help Rick. :D

Faulty/noisy ram can cause any of these issues as well. If his computer has more than one ram chip, I would remove one ram chip at a time and run it on the remaining to see if the errors stop.

this ATI catalyst is using up all my memory but from what i read it contols the graphics and a few other important things on the computer.i looked earlier at task manager and this thing is hogging up memory and i'm confused at the moment about how to disable it or modify it somehow.it is definitely causing a lot of the problems.

Yes, you can remove the ati catalyst stuff, but you're still going to need drivers for the video card. You can find those on emachine's website. For your computer, they list the complete catalyst package, and below that is just the video driver. All of that can be found at this link. http://support.gateway.com/us/en/emac/p ... delId=1620

Uninstalling the ATI Catalyst software can be done via Add/Remove Programs. To open that, click the Start Button and in the "Start Search" box type appwiz.cpl and press enter. Once the list of software is populated, click on the ATI Catalyst Installer Manager" entry and click the "Change" button. It will guide you through the rest.
