Toby Hitchcock solo album - WOW

Anyone who has read Andrew's review knows he thought very highly of this CD. Just wanted to echo his sentiments. This guy is the brightest young star in AOR today. You really all have to check it out. Fantastic fucking album. It sure sounds fresh after listening to the recent efforts of Journey and the like.

The guitar and vocals are on FIRE throughout.

Powerful singer, cd is okay, 4 good songs , one of them rips off WET in the chorus(how to stop). Not a bad cd but i was hoping all the songs would have catchier hooks to them.

Hooks are in the ear of the beholder I suppose, but I hear a HUGE chorus/hook on every single one of these songs. Most of them have great catchy guitar riffs to get things started too. I'm curious, what do you consider to be the 4 good songs? I really haven't found a complete dud on here yet.

The W.E.T. influence is indeed all over the CD, but that doesn't bother me.

I think at times he uses too much vibrato which will turn me off on some of his songs, but i agree there's some great guitar work on this cd(for some reason on some of the songs, his voice becomes annoying to me, it almost sounds like it is warbling, it's hard to pinpoint it). Summer nights in cabo is another rip off of wet not as obvious as "how to stop". This song has some great stuff on it but it's also annoying because he uses the "summer nights in cabo" too much

For me he suffers that samey sound on lot of his tracks , its almost as if he is singing the same way on each song and they change up the music in the background. It also sounds like he is using piped in vocals on a large portion of these songs, sometimes they work , sometimes they sound cheesy.

4 songs is okay , i'm guessing the rating would be somewhere from the 70's to just under an 80%, not fantastic but certainly not a bomb.

Well, W.E.T. is definitely one of the CDs i've enjoyed the most in the last several years on this scene. And most here know I'm FAR from a JSS cheerleader. It was just a damn good CD. So I don't mind the W.E.T. sound being prominent here.

He would do well in Survivor. If they hired him, I might actually go see a show. Unlikely for either to happen, unfortunately, and I say that as a major fan of the band.

This is basically what the melodic rock scene has evolved to. Even ten years, band A didn't sound like band B or band C, for that matter. Now, you have a very limited writing team, and a heavy crossover of the musicians and a couple of producers because of a very limited amount of money to go around, especially when you consider that probably half or more of these "bands" will never play a live concert. What it boils down to is that the differences between the bands simply vanish, and it's left to the singer to make changes in the written material.

Doesn't mean you can get good albums, but I long for the days when Journey and Survivor and Foreigner (and the lesser known bands) each had their own distinctive sound. Erik Martensson is a fine writer albeit a very average lyricist IMO, but when he writes songs and albums for every band out there, it gets old fast--and no songwriter can maintain that level for an extended period of time without the quality dropping (see Gary Hughes).

I love the album it is full of hooks and has a nice hard rockin sound throughout the album. Toby has some serious pipes, I'm glad he did this record so he has something else going for him other than the POL. BTW the next POL album is way overdue.

I have the album. Toby has a great, powerful voice! I don't think anybody would be disappointed in this CD at all.

The CD arrived yesterday and I only had a chance to listen to about 2/3rds of it. It is very reminiscent of W.E.T. and Eclipse but Toby definitely has his own vocal style. Not quite sure how to pigeon hole him yet but kind of reminds me a little of Danny Vaughn. I can only imagine what some of the songs would sound like with JSS singing them and it makes me all the more anxious for a new W.E.T. release!!

Very cool album over all and the guitar work is stellar! Definitely one to check out and add to your collection.

I've found it to be a great gym CD. Lots of aggressive guitars, big choruses, and some really nice atmospheric keyboards/guitars effects going on that you really hear in a headphone mix.
