Neal is just a bad human being. I do not like him. Opinion of course.

He did a great job, but the idea that he added some sort of heretofore original spin on the classics is bullshit: The pacing and phrasing of the songs were practically the same to what Augeri and Perry did before him, the only difference is that he couldn't hit the same notes, and that wasn't by choice but a consequence of Soto's lower pitch.

This is true and I have said it before.

Are Perry's comments that the Soto direction would have been a good move for Journey sincere or do they have the same motivation that his right hand propagandists, and other previously Perry only's who jumped aboard the JSS/Journey train, had in 2006? That being the agenda of "promoting and supporting" a Journey that had the least chance of succeeding?

Other than letting Perry run with the Soto pushing Journey to new territory theme--when Andrew has commented that they've done that to his satisfaction with Arnel on Eclipse, its a really good interview. I don't suppose I should have expected him to challenge Perry on this nor should I be surprised he'd be comfortable with bringing up JSS, given that one of Jeff's amazing fans set up the interview, when the other two of the three singers apparently don't have names...and Perry has never heard them?
However, given the delicacy of Perry's emotional nature on this subject I can overlook that much easier than the over the top fawning at Perry's greatness, the "your Lordship" type terms of reverence, and not calling him on things like his being the catalyst for the mid 90s reunion.

Care to share some examples of what you consider make Neal a bad human being. Curious on your criteria.

Wow, seriously, he never heard any of two other singers after all these years? It’s hard to believe like when you went to a divorce, it’s a natural instinct that you’re always curious and want to find out more about your ex present wife/husband, if he/she’s better than you?

I think it's like this. Perry stated in older interviews that the songs that he co-wrote with Journey are like his children. So, if the man feels this way about those songs, then do you think he would be eager to hear someone else sing those songs with Journey? Probably the last thing he'd want to do. I do understand what he was saying about Jeff, but that isn't to say Steve would still be very happy having Jeff front the band, he's just saying out of the three, he knows Jeff is already a very capable and talented song writer/singer. Jeff has the best resume out of the three.

This is getting over-analyzed to death, so here's my simple guess. IMO, what Perry is probably saying is that if JSS fronted the band, it would have been a departure from the vocal similarities that both Augeri and Pineda share with Perry, and an opportunity for the band to grow and be something different than a band that hires guys in a certain vocalist who can emulate him live, so you get as close to the legacy sound without having him front the band. Just like their change from the Rollie era to Perry where the vocals were different and the band continued to grow.

Soto got me excited about Journey again. Augeri, not so much, and Pineda not at all.

JSS was the life they needed.

In my opinion, of course.

Curious minds want to know...don't leave anything out!

Sounded good! No problem there. In fact the parts of Neal's guitar solo he hummed were pretty high - sounded good there too!

When do you plan on releasing it to the public? :D

We hate you.................love you at the same time. Envy to the nth degree. So up those who would say the man cannot sing huh? Why didn't you record the interview.............ARGH!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
On a serious note. Andrew thanks for doing the interview. It was wonderful and I am sure the LOONS and Perry haters will finally have something to drool/spew pea soup for some time now. Personally I am just going to enjoy the interview for what it is. Great stuff. :D
