The vaccine just didn't give them enough of an immunity boost for some reason. All 3 of my kids got the vaccine. My son was the only one who got the chicken pox, despite having the vaccine. But I'd do it again!! His case was SO mild! NOTHING like what I had to deal with as a child. That's what sold me on the vaccine when I heard a percentage of kids still were not immune. Their cases are much milder and that also reduces the chances of other more severe complications of the chicken pox, such as pneumonia or encephalitis. Yeah, wonder how those parents PURPOSELY exposing their kids will feel, when one of them dies from something encephalitis. People think things like the flu and chicken pox are just things we get. Part of life. Deal with it. They can also be very deadly. To healthy people too. It's only sad when people know someone personally it's happened to though. And then it's "gee, too bad they didn't get the vaccine, it was such a preventable thing"
I really did always think this... :?
But I would've had mine take the vaccine had it been invented ...don't know when that happened?!

Well there are just a lot of things to consider. For instance, when a pregnant woman has the chicken pox while pregnant, she can pass it on to her fetus and they can be born with defects. So if i hadn't contracted the chicken pox, and that vaccine existed for me, I would have done it before trying to get pregnant. Things like that.

My friend lost her healthy early 60's mother due to pneumonia from the flu 5 years ago. Not some special swine, or bird flu... just one of the strains of flu. She developed pneumonia and died. It happens. People just don't hear of it as often. Maybe even DUE to vaccines. The fact is, no one knows how THEIR immune systems will react to a particular virus. So it's just a gamble/risk you decide to take. I would never knowingly expose my child to anything. I could never live with it if they ended up in the hospital really sick or even dying.

I've always heard the flu vaccine (always different stains, I've heard) was for the very old and the
very young and the people in the middle should not get it, with the exception of Med students, nurses, etc. ...
is that so?!? Because I do not!!

Matter of choice really. No harm in getting it though.

The CDC recommends ALL people get it. Those are just the people at highest risk, who should definitely get it. Here's a link for the shot recommendations (the killed virus) I don't do the nasal with my kids. It's a live virus, and my son has viral induced asthma!
