GREATEST HITS VOLUME 2

Voted Worlds #1 Most Loonatic Fanbase

Journey's Greatest Hits 2 seems to have lost quite a bit of momentum since its release.

Amazon Positions:
Greatest hits 2: Its now at #580 and it continues to plumit pretty fast everyday.
Greatest hits 1 is still doing pretty well at #210.

People seem to be more interested in the original greatest hits album rather than the lesser known Journey hits on the greatest hits 2. I think Journey will be lucky if this goes gold within 4 years. It doesnt seem to have the staying power and momentum that Greatest hits 1 does.

Also noticed that for the first time in a few years that Journey albums are not selling as well as they usually do this time of year. Typically this is there best time, especially for their Greatest hits 1 sales.

Sony didn't put much money into it. Look at the CD cover, all they did was change red to blue and add a 2. Unlike Eclipse though, Sony can let it sit out there and be discounted on occasion like what happens with volume 1. iTunes and Amazon can do that any time they want. Remember, a two dollar price drop last Father's Day helped GH1 move 23k in two days. You don't get those periodic discounts with Journey's Wal-mart Exclusives it seems.

Looks like while everyone else has their Greatest Hits albums selling well this holiday season, Journey's taking a powder. For the first time in a loooong time, Journey won't have a presence on the album charts this week.

Exactly. This is pretty uncharacteristic for Journey's compilation albums. I wonder why the steep decrease in popularity...maybe America is getting a little "Journeyed out".

Whats sort of pathetic is the fact that Journey's greatest hits 2 absolutely had no staying power or momentum at all on charts. After just 1 week debuting at #93, it has already dropped out of the top 200 albums. Journey's greatest hits 1 has also dropped out of the top 200 albums charts...wonder when the last time that happened? It still has a presence on the top catalog charts, but it dropping there too.

Top catalog albums for week ending November 13:

40 41 39 62 JOURNEY GREATEST HITS 3044 0 3033 7955321
24 67 77 95 JOURNEY CAPTURED (LIVE) 2301 5 2197 71745

Hi Rick, no problem.
40 41 39 62 JOURNEY GREATEST HITS 3044 0 3033 7955321: The numbers on the left are chart positions and the numbers all the way to the right of the "Hits" are sells figures for this past week and the previous week. So the #62 is the current chart position for this week in in catalog albums, and the previous week it was at #39. The 3,033 are copies sold this past week and the 3044 are copies sold the previous week.

So:
Week 2/week3/week4/current chart position/journey greatest hits/previous sales/current sales/total sales as of 2011

Sony did more than just change the cover from red to blue. Both GH1 & GH2 are now gatefold which required an entirely different layout. Sony also put together the sizzle reels and a couple of television ads. I'm not sure when/where the tv ads are going to air but I am checking with Sony to get more info.

Oh button the fuck up already. What do you know anyway?

 :D

Seriously though, I wonder if Sony will run ads for BOTH 1 and 2 together, using the same ad time/space? I would. Columbia is doing it with Springsteen's redo of Darkness and the box set (The making of Darkness on the Edge of Town). I saw it on Direct TV for a NY/NJ market....makes sense to have GH2 gravy train off of GH1, and simultaneously attract sales from both products. I am willing to bet if you can get Joe Sixpack or Sally Housewife in front of these two selections at a store near you, chances are good they'll buy both. Maybe Sony could offer a discounted purchase price if buying two at once(or the selling store could do that easier I would imagine)- maybe 5 bucks off if buying BOTH.

Ok, you can unbutton the fuck down now Lora. I Love you Sweetie.

I believe it's totals tracked since Soundscan started being used (1991). GH1 has well over 10 million copies sold as it's already been certified at Diamond status.

Looks like Eclipse Tyson-Spinksed GHII.

I am buying it but cannot find the damn thing yet.

It's only the first round. Eclipse got to 70K (85K when including overseas sales) and fell off the face of the earth. GH collections usually burn steady. In another year or two this thing will still be selling a thousand or two a week and be well past Eclipse at that point with a lot of those sales being digital downloads, something that Nomota doesn't really have a good grip on yet. Amazon and iTunes will run promotions with this one just like they do with Disc 1 on occasion and give it an added bump every now and then.
On the other hand, Wal-Mart has killed its download service so when Journey says Eclipse is only available at that retailer, they're missing the boat with a good part of their potential consumers by not telling them that there is also a digital offering at iTunes and Amazon.
Revelation is another story. GH2 will never get near to that one as Rev even outsells Eclipse on a daily basis.
Best Buy should have GH2. I don't think Target carried it at all.

Maybe Sony could offer a discounted purchase price if buying two at once(or the selling store could do that easier I would imagine)- maybe 5 bucks off if buying BOTH.

Ok, you can unbutton the fuck down now Lora. I Love you Sweetie.

PS- Next time you 2 girls are down here, ring me....would like to see you.

I haven't watched the ad in awhile but I think it was just for GH2. And there is a separate one for Street Talk. One would hope they will start airing, especially in time for Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

We would love to see you again, too! I'll let you know next time we're heading that way. xoxo
