Between Frontiers coming to Northeast Ohio regularly and Escape being a local treasure, there is absolutely NO fucking way I will ever pay the bloated prices I paid last summer to see Journey on its last legs ever again.
Liquid_Drummer wrote:Their 1st serious show since getting back at it. Partial video and pretty damn good sounding. With Jason and band sounding this tight right off from resuming I cant wait to hear what they have in store..
After Neals crank shot (thank god I never saw it !) I dont think I can go see the real band live again. I just have no respect for the guy at all but these guys will do just fine.

Along with Evolution, The Great Escape, Frontiers and Trial By Fire

He's definitely the closest voice out there to Perry with the least pitch issues of any of the tribute singers. I think the wig looks pretty fake, but I have no beef with him dressing like him. They are a tribute band after all, and not a cover band. Even the bass player dresses like Ross used to with the jumpsuits. I think it's pretty cool and nostalgic. Jason sounds much better than Arnel on this stuff IMHO. His voice isn't as strong, but he sounds MUCH more like Perry. I'd pay to see these guys in a heartbeat!

One minute into the song and he's already resorting to alot of falsetto. Sounds decent, but not the closest thing to Perry, not by a long shot.

Couldn't agree more. The falsetto does not sound good here at all.

Very thin. In fact, I think I got a paper cut from listening.

Juan not sounding too hot here. Hmm. Jason and Jeremey are it as far as I am concerned. Those guys feel the songs. I never feel Jason is just going through the motions and not seeing Frontiers live because then NEVER come to Louisville (you seeing this Jeremey ? Come to Louisville damnit !) I cant say.
No one sounds like Perry but Perry. Jason is more throaty these days but no sign of wear. I want to hear their version of Mother Father from their latest show that was recorded pro and filmed in HD. I heard he knocked that fucker out of the park. I heard him do it in the past and it was Live At Houston good. It was surreal to be honest because I have only heard two people on this planet serve it up right.. Deen done a great job though too. Jason is the only one besides Perry I have heard sing that song (15 years ago) and nail it to the wall. I have not heard Frontiers do that one if they do it... And WHY oh WHY wont any of these guys play people and places !!! Damn I love that song... It has been my favorite Journey tune since I was too little to know who the hell I was hearing on the radio. I just remember that organ intro and how it grabbed me even as a child... I think that was the 1st Journey tune I ever heard. Born in 71 so...

Sorry, that's my fault. I have a bad habit of picking a live clip that I was there at, as it always sounds better live than on youtube, and I didn't really have a good listen, moreso recalling how good the show was live. My bad, I've done that on occasion with my other fave vocalists too, I gotta post clips more on the vocal quality not the live vibe of the clip. This isn't the best clip to showcase his vocals for sure. But having seen others clips over the last couple years and live, IMO none sound closer to Escape/Frontiers/ROR Perry than Juan. Songs like After The Fall, Oh Sherrie and Girl Can't Help It would blow you away, amazingly similar tonality and delivery. There were some stellar vocal clips up, but every/all Journey Tribute band clips were pulled from youtube last year when Journey had their hissy fit.
