I'm so bored with life

Postby Archetype » Fri Jan 27, 2012 12:02 pm

I'm literally so bored with my life that it's actually painful. I feel pain as a result of boredom. I'm sick of college. Sick of my town. I just want to magically become super marketable overnight and land a nice job and begin to enjoy life. I have no goals, no aspirations, nothing to work towards. No idea what I want to do with life. I just fucking want money and toys. How does one rig the lottery system?

Man, that was pretty uninspiring.

Good luck! You'll figure it out. Go get drunk and laid. :D

Well, I have a hunch that public speaking isn't in your future. If you're under 25, you're probably okay. If you're older than that...you're fucked!

Biggest smile I've gotten all day. :) I hear ya, bro! I've personally hit a scary little spot where I'm bored stiff and not much interests me. Reminds me of a line from "Sherlock Holmes" where Downey looks out a window and says something like, "There's nothing out there that interests me at all..." :) I need to discover a new passion or I fear I'll plummet rather quickly, lol.

You're alright dude. You're relatively young (Christ, I'm only 23 and feel like your elder writing you this! :? ) Most of my buddies who packed up and left town are "professional college students" and have 6-7 year major's that is seriously certifiably insane for any human being to endure unless you're going to send a rocket ship to the moon or solve the cure for cancer. I've already been pulled in so many directions in just a 1 year's notice and had to do what I had to do to make money. I started working for my brothers Silkscreen company at 17 and saw the boom of his business (even did shirts for Neal! Neal Schon's Afro Society t-shirts) but differences and curiosity led me to a different direction. To give myself some time to reflect and what I wanted, I held a steady but VICIOUS paper-route for 3 years before deciding to re-enlist in school and take a chance. Going out on a limb is what you need to do. The mind is a powerful thing. I enlisted into the Information Technology (I.T) field and it was pretty much like starting all over and gave myself an identity. I completed my coarse, went through externs, have to go through an internship and have the pressure of my school breathing down my neck on landing interview after interview, let alone taking exams to become certified (that I'm currently working on at this very moment) and had a GPA of 3.5, all which seemed impossible just a few years earlier.

I, too, felt like yourself at one point. In today's society, especially our generation, the pressure is monumental for us to perform and start a family of our own by a certain age (like John said, 25ish.) I'm 23 and made the decision to go after something rather than sitting around and waiting for something to come to me. Got to go out on a limb, even if it doesn't peak your interest. Take it from me, I was born and bred to be a Steel Mill worker, my father, who is a top boss at one of the top Steel Mill's in the Pittsburgh area, could land me a job in the industry starting out at $30.00 an hour but I chose to go on and find myself.

You're young, only 21 years old. Give it time for the mature in your mindset to kick in because within a couple years notice, everything can turn around and change for the better. And if it doesn't work out, you can always hang your hat on the fact that you tried and tried again to find yourself from within. You might not have it now, but the confidence will come. Just give yourself a chance and be ready, when you're ready!

I'll trade you my career, nice job and salary if you can magically become 43, and I get 22 years of youth back knowing what I know now. 8)

Yup....I was sick of mine, too...because MATH of all things stopped me from getting my Music Degree. :x Had to take Summer Courses. :x

Sick of my town.

I hear ya. That was me too.

I just want to magically become super marketable overnight and land a nice job and begin to enjoy life.

At 21??

Dude...you're 23 years YOUNGER than me.
And NOW, at 44, I'm doing the "Musician" thing...that I THOUGHT I'd easily get with my "BA Degree".

I've worked steadily from that point....but GOD....I've learned that your Life DOES NOT END if you DON'T GET WHAT YOU WANT in your 20s. Geez.

I have no goals, no aspirations, nothing to work towards. No idea what I want to do with life.

Well, perhaps you should take one of those Career / Personality Quizzes.
Here - I even found one for you:

From the hippy dippy crunchy granola front... my advice is to volunteer.

Get out of your own self-absorbed little world and try in improve things for somebody/something else.

Pick something you care about (other than money and status) ... animals, kids, the arts, the environment, technology (everybody needs tech help), history, music, politics ... The list is endless

Your college can probably even hook you up

I'm sick of the "pick something you care about" line. Some people are better at hiding it than others, but everyone truly cares only about money and status. That's all I want.

Sheesh i'm old then.....i'm turning 40 next year, work in a shitty retail job and I am broke all the time. But you know what, even getting ready to reach that milestone, I decided to go back to school and work towards a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting so I can have a better life. Feeling sorry for myself only got me into the rut I am in right now, doing something about it is going to get me out of it within a few years :?

Then you have nothing to worry about. Everyone is clueless when they're 21. It's all part of being 21. As Ed alluded to, there is a reason the old adage reads "youth is wasted on the young". Look at the bright side, you are still very young. Hell, I have socks older than you

You're 21? So you're either a 2nd semester junior or on your way out of school this semester if you're a relatively young senior? Jesus man, drink a few beers and fuck a few girls before it's too late! It's never the same after college, no matter what anybody says. It's not bad either, mind you, but college is its own animal.

Why not just stop being gay and do something about it? Complaining on a message board won't do you any good. If you want something, then just take it.

I hate to say it, but, you sound like many in your generation. You just forgot to mention that you want to be hired as the president of a company without working your way there.

Set some goals and work your ass off to meet them. You'll be amazed how good you'll feel when you accomplish something. Suddenly, the girls look prettier, the beer is colder, your food tastes better, your thing seems bigger (sorry, trying to fit in around here) . Success by working for it is good shit. More people ought to try it.

Those things don't give you happiness. You need to find a way to be happy in your own status in your own life. You may never have money or status. Most don't. Stop looking at what doesn't work in your life and work on what does. And as for college, it is normal to get burn out. You think your the first student to have it? Your either going to find a hobby or interest, or your going to stay miserable. There is no way around it. Your creating your own unrest in your mind. My son is 21, and I was 21 many years ago, but I don't forget.... Your just at the start of your crossroads... these are normal feelings.

Coors Light and Keystone are one in the same. Coors is pulled from the same batch as keystone. Coors is from the upper half of the batch, Keystone is from the lower half closer to the yeast bed. Keystone will have a slightly bolder taste because it’s closer to the yeast.

Just like other posters on here, I am in my early 20s (23 to be exact). I get what you are feeling, even though I had a very good sense of what I "wanted" to do, at 21.

Correct me if I'm wrong. You wanna kick-start your life, get out into that "real world", get that job, get the paycheck with all the monetary freedom, & forget about tests/paper?

As a college grad, I say, ENJOY WHAT IS LEFT OF COLLEGE. While you are feeling good due to college (you SHOULD BE), think of what you like in life. If you want to, you can find a way to make your passion a career, or at least source of money. If all you want is a "big paycheck job", well there are those too.

Simply, enjoy what's left of college, think of the future as an endless set of possibilities & think what will make you happy. Then, GO FOR IT!
