As the Daddy to two young children...that rips my heart out, Ed. So sad for your little girl. The awesome part of what she wrote is that it illustrates the genuine sweetness of children.

Sorry the pic is too large for the thread. It upset me. The stupid carnival goldfish did live with us for 2 years and I get it. It begged for food in the tank and was sort of a family member. It got sick out of nowhere and was flushed this morning. Better to do that than let the little one see it float.

Bless her heart. 2 years is a big chunk of her life.

Good on you and her mom for helping her express her sadness.

Ours too to a certain extent. That little fucker used to swim to the top of the tank anytime we walked by.

It was sad seeing it sink to the bottom and get stuck in the filter two days after it was healthy looking.

It was a nice little pet and we tried our best to take care of it for 2 full years.

So sorry for Kristen! It's hard for a child to lose a pet and even harder for the parents to have to witness their child's sorrow! Looks like you'll have to take her to the carnival and win her a new one!

This old parent went through this ,too. I found out overfeeding of the goldfish caused too much ammonia in the water and it burned up there lungs. We lost a parakeet and Ms Thumper the rabbit moved. The cat lived 17yrs . The kids are adults now and still remember . One squeezed the bird too hard. The rabbit ate the telephone line so Ms Thumper was placed in a safer home. Every year I told my husband- DO NOT BRING HOME ANY GOLDFISH . You could bet on it and that also he raided their Halloween candy ! Sorry about your little ones.

aw ...so sweet, poor baby!

She wouldn't understand, Ed, so don't tell her I said it, but
this made me think how lucky you guys were to have a goldfish
live such a long life. I always thought goldfish years were like
1 day=10 years, but I looked it up and if a goldfish is well taken
care of they can live up to twelve years
