Frustrated at the lack of some bands' back catalog.

The band in question: The Enid featuring/led by Robert John Godfrey, who was associated for a time with Barclay James Harvest.

On their website they have 10 albums for sale, 8 studio and 2 live.

When I get into a band I prefer to pick up either a best of or live album. The Enid have 2 live albums fo sale, but they are recent recordings. Since the band has been around since 1976 and have 2 live albums (Live at Hammersmith (Vol. 1 & 2)) which are available as high priced imports or on iTunes, I'd prefer to pick those up. They also released one compilation before their album in 1988, (next album didn't come until 1994). That comp (Lovers And Fools) has never been available on CD. They do have other comps released later, but again only as high priced imports.

That leads me to my frustration and why I turn to downloading those albums that are hard to find or out of print. I don't like to do it (download). I buy CDs to support the artist and do so willingly. If you take all of the CDs I've purchased through the years I've owned around 3,000. Now my collection is a more manageable 600, the rest I have on the computer.

I often read about bands/artists "winning" their back catalog. It frustrates me that albums go OOP and become HTF, thus forcing me to download through nefarious means.

You need at least 1,000 copies to sell to even justify printing a CD now days. If you have never had major record sales in a certain market, it's not worth it.

Love Amazon UK. I've found a ton of movies and things to be cheaper on their site than the US one. I unlocked the DVD portion of my Blu-ray player to make it region-free with a free software hack and have been able to enjoy all of the deals I've gotten from that side of the pond. I've saved a bunch and that's even with shipping.

I'm not missing any really. The one I really want is the 'Lovers And Friends" comp which as I said is no longer in print. It can be found in vinyl though. And even if I purchase their other comps: 'Sheets Of Blue', 'An Alternative History' and 'Anarchy on 45' I still wouldn't have all the songs/versions that make up 'Lovers And Friends'.

For an example I hunted down the King Crimson comp 'A Young Persons Guide To King Crimson' from 1976 for a few years. I finally found a copy on CD from Japan. It cost me around $55, but I got it. I equate 'Lovers And Friends' to that.

Great to hear. I did that with my last dvd player, I just had to have the tray out and typed in a 4 or 5 digit code, that was on the web, associated to my make and model of dvd player to change it to region free and it was great as I could then watch some Japan Mr Big dvds that I had, no problem. Needless to say that dvd eventually bit the big one and I now have a blueray player and didn't know if I could do that again and didn't want to take the chance of screwing up the blueray. Is it just as simple to do with a blueray player?

It was a simple code trick for me too, though it couldn't unlock the blu-ray portion unfortunately.

Yep.Plenty of goodies to be had that you can't get in North -America.

Enid is a very strange band.Have had a few albums of there's over the years.
The only one that I really like is Salome.

And that's why I want a 'best of', true they have 3 more, but the first one 'Lovers And Fools' was put out to chronicle their first few albums and in my mind a better bet. But sadly, like I've said is OOP.
