Bon jovi losing their edge as rockers

Listening to their new release and although there are 16 songs at least 6 of these sound like they came off a willie nelson cd. I really cant consider these guys rockers anymore,The last couple of cds seem to be more of a top 40/ pop, country western vibe. lots of weak filler with not enough melody or hooks to make you want to keep listening. It's not a horrible cd but for bon jovi its flat out dull. What has happened to this band

I don't like how Jon has been singing these last years. Nasally or something. Put Richie on more songs. LOL

I still say at a certain age a band needs to bring in new songwriters if they've written a lot of albums, because their lyrics start sounding the same and the melody and hooks do seem to go.

I haven't bought a Bon Jovi album since "New Jersey". When Jon turned the music into "Springsteen Lite" that was the end for me.

I don't think Bon Jovi is all that bad, though I've not heard anything recent from them. Speaking of Bon Jovi Albums, the only album I ever purchased from them was Slippery When Wet. That was a great time, living in Japan and frequently traveling to the Philippines for vacations. The songs on that album was being played in both places at that time. All the other songs from other Bon Jovi albums have been given to me.

I really liked a few songs off of Crush, but that was pretty much the last Bon Jovi album I really cared a lot about. Loved their first album up through Keep The Faith, and I lost interest after that.

Very generic jovi sound as of late, it sounds like someone in their late sixties wrote this, not their early 50's

He can't hit the high notes too well now days, so they're structuring songs that sound ok in his current range. And...yep..that means more country style music.

They sell albums... they get songs and videos out there to the public... and they tour and fill arenas without an opening act... I don't think they care if their sound changed. They are still doing what most other bands their age can't do.

They had some catchy tunes and some of the stuff on The Circle album was decent. They have become more of a mid-tempo band with their

last releases and maybe that's the direction they want to go. I don't claim to get it but I've never been a huge fan.

Hasn't Bon Jovi always had a tint of country style of music? Jon wrote the Young Gun II sound track. I've always felt Dead Or Alive had a tint of old western country style of music. I listed to Lost Highway yesterday and although it was considered a country rock album it still had a strong Jovi sound to it. I dont really remember anything from The Circle truthfully

Nothing lasts forever. The time always comes, they have to give up the "career" ghost sooner or later.

I heard their newest release on our mix station in Orlando yesterday.... name another band from that time who does that? I can't. They have good marketing maybe. Their concerts attract young people too. They have longevity, for whatever reason, and I don't think they care if 80's music lovers like their style. And I agree that they always had that country draw. Dead or Alive definitely did. He's from a small town in Jersey, idolized Springstein... their sound isn't all that different to me than it has been for a long time. Other than the typical voice changes of an aging singer. They put on a hell of a show, in good sized arenas, no other band supporting them. They obviously still have SOMETHING.

Would have to agree, and this is coming from a major fan for many many years (as far back as their very first performance of Runaway on American Bandstand lol). Loved everything up to 'These Days' and actually quite a few on 'Crush' too. But totally lost interest after 'Bounce'. Even hearing their new song on the radio 'Cuz We Can' just sounds like alot of other pop on the radio. For me they have lost most (if not all) of their rock edge. Haven't been really excited about any album of theirs that they have done after These Days.

This is true. Jon always had some strange fascination with the whole "cowboy" thing. But their decisive turn towards a more western sound is smart. The hair band stuff is over, and country is the only genre growing. At the end of the day, Jon's more businessman than rocker.

Since 2008 Justin bieber and Lady Gaga have both grossed a hell of a lot more than that but that doesn't mean there music is any good.
