Foreigner... "Too Late"

Postby G.I.Jim » Fri Apr 05, 2013 10:10 am

MAN I love this song. I remember the first time I heard it thinking "holy shit, this sounds just like Foreigner is supposed to sound!!". Then I heard the rest of the album. :( It's not that the album was terrible, but it was no where CLOSE to how awesome this song was (to me anyways). I don't know if it was the sax in the song, the choppy "Cold As Ice" piano lines or the freely moving bass lines, but to me the song just exuded Foreigner. The album on the other hand was a mellow mash-up of mediocre songs. I was hoping for so much more. I know that Mick was intentionally targeting the A.C. market, but I really wish they would just record another Foreigner album like "Too Late". Anyone else dig the song? Here's the official video for it...

It felt like they were ripping themselves off with this song.
I liked "When It Comes To Love" a lot better.

There are a few things that are seriously distracting here... The avatars on the right are SERIOUSLY fucking me up!! And I agree, the bold is too close to the normal text color and is hard to see. Andrew... I thought you were updating the website, not the forums?? I personally didn't see one thing wrong with them as they were? :?

I think the song served two purposes. 1st, it showed that they have a new singer and that they could still sound like Foreigner. 2nd, I think they made the sound of the song more modern and tried to squeeze it into more modern music. I LOVED the fact that they still sounded like Foreigner. To me, it was kind of like the first time I heard "Remember Me" from Journey on the radio. I was in shock, and thought... "DAMN that guy sounds just like Perry!!!". What a great way on both band's parts for showcasing the first sample of what the new singer could pull off. :D Now if Foreigner's next album could sound more like that, I'd be one happy camper!

I think it's great. I have seen Foreigner live a number of times with Kelly. They played "Too Late" a few times. As you said, lots of classic Foreigner elements. Musically, these guys are very tight. Kelly does the Foreigner sound justice.

I know you like it because it's heavy on keys. :D I agree, Jim, it's a great song.
