I know my Wombat friend doesn't like it.

I think it is ok.

Couple of decent tracks.

Discuss.

Are you saying you don't like "Queensryche", or Tate's version of Queensryche? They are both releasing new material right? Just not sure which one you're referring to. I hope it's Tate's version you're talking about. I'm actually excited about the bands release. Please tell me this one doesn't suck?

Locally in Seattle, they had a deal on the radio yesterday morning. They said "Geoff Tate's Queensryche album is getting panned so much that Geoff is soliciting reviews for the album. The worst review gets backstage passes".
They played a bit of it. Never really been a fan. The sample didn't do anything to change that. Then they played the OTHER Queensryche tune (new). They said it sounded like Journey. Thought that was funny.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I listened to the TateRyche CD today.

I plan to do a review of it soon. But it was like most albums released these days. Some good, some mediocre, some horrendously bad.

I truly expected to hate it. Not sure which mix I heard either. I'll spin it again to see if I need my ears cleaned out or not.

Hmmm, wasn't going to get too excited about this one, but I did want to hear it, just out of morbid curiousness. There are now two versions of Queensryche, other version will have a cd out this summer.

Frequency Unknown, Tate's new album, is fairly decent 80's/90's metal. Of course, they'll never, ever be another Mindcrime or Empire, so get that out of your head right away. The album does not offend, but doesn't really impress. Standard predictable metal/hard rock. The wrote and recorded in record time and I had read that the sound quality really suffered. I didn't really think the production was bad.

The album ends with 4-5 "old" Queensryche songs re-recorded by this version of the band. That almost never makes a song better. In this case, it is an abomination. Those songs sound like a below average cover band and the production is laughable. Ridiculous playing and singing. Horrible.

That's all.
It's not a lie, if you believe it..........

Have you heard the bands new album? I only heard the one song. I'm excited to hear more, but I'm cautiously optimistic. The one song I heard was just okay to me. Not a classic song by any means. The new singer does sound good though, and I'm just hoping that they chose the wrong song to showcase him. When does their album come out?

When I heard the samples of TateRyche's "Frequency Unknown" I was disgusted. They sounded terrible. Even if the songs were ok, the sound mix and Tate's vocals were horrendous. But hearing the album full, it sounds better. Now only the remakes are horrendous.

Did Andrew review "Frequency Unknown" yet? I agree with the comments above, very average rock cd, some decent tracks. With better production and maybe DeGarmo's input, it could've worked. In the battle of the bands, I can't say I like what I am hearing from the new Todd-fronted Queensryche. The lead single, Redemption, has a fruity chorus and some bad attempts at Limp Bizkit-esque whiteboy rapping. The magic of the band was always Tate/DeGarmo. As an aside, Tate wrote "Walking Away from the Edge" with Jon and Neal. Would love to see them collaborate again.
