How do I get people to discover my music?

Aside from the basics [local gigs, website, youtube, facebook, etc.], how can I get more melodic rock fans to discover my music?

One of the consequences of the destruction of the major labels monopoly on the distribution system is that there's a buttload more music out there than before... and there's very little way to target an audience the way the majors used to with their "captive' distribution system.

Now, the independent artist has to play the role of distributor, marketer and manager too. So yer gonna have to get really savvy on things like iTunes, Tunecore, Spotify etc... and also do things via social media.. like Stageit...

.. on top of writing great songs.. and I mean this sincerely .. the days of "filler" are over.. every song has to be great.
