Simply put (as apposed the lengthy legal talk in your article) Social Security benefits are directly tied to the rate of inflation. Since there has been no inflation, there is no increase.
It has NOTHING to do with congress. Therefore, the pic he posted is a complete misrepresentation of reality and it is nothing but propaganda.
Monker, does not all the money that goes into our government for whatever purpose ultimately come from money that "we the people" worked for? Within that context EVERYTHING that gets paid for out of that money is connected whether a raise for the already overpaid congress or the lack of one for social security recipients
I'm afraid you're the one who is either terribly naive or trying desperately to hold on to an ideology if you think anything in Washington is done according to an unalterable and unfailing mathematical process or set of rules. They can, will, and have done anything they want to with whatever pool of money they want for whatever purpose.
That's what happened to the untouchable social security fund. They rob Peter to pay Paul as standard operating procedure and find a way to justify it later.
If you don't believe this I'm happy for you. I wish I was still that full of ideological naivete.
I don't disagree with much of that.
However, saying congress wants a raise and Social Security did not get a raise this year are two "facts" slammed together for political propaganda. It's no different then the senator who brought in a snowball to prove that global warming isn't happening. It's all theatrics designed to get an emotional knee jerk reaction....propaganda.
Ok, but isn't most of politics posturing for the best possible reaction ( propaganda)?
