Like many of us here, I miss this era of the band terribly. The Arrival tracks are some of the best since Frontiers. I prefer them over TBF and Revelation/Eclipse. Jon and Neal clearly had their songwriting chemistry back - unencumbered by Perry's preference for the R & B schmaltz. They were rockin' and rollin'. They'd lost their sack by Generations, but Arrival is a great record that holds up well.

Regarding the Arrival songwriting....I believe it was at Kalodner's urging that they worked with outside writers. Almost all of the Arrival rock tracks have a Jack Blades co-write. Revelation and Eclipse are almost 100% pure Cain/Schon.

Wow, cant believe they did this live. Back in the day I was in the very minority saying this song was great. Extremely melodic, but having the bluesy feel. But I am also in the minority, as I love the rockers and mid tempos on Arrival the ballads were terrible,
except for "Kiss me Softly". The other ballads were paint by numbers, especially the horrific "All the Way".
But Kiss me softly was something totally different.

I am not that way and loved by you are just wrong. glad the first was ditched in the American release.

Still wonder if Nothin' Comes Close was recorded for Arrival but didnt make the initial cut.
It was never played live as I believe in the tour before the album release but World Gone Wild, With Your Love, and a similar bluesy rocker having a good time? (not sure if there ever was an official name for this song).

The way I understood it is that it was part of the Arrival demos, but not recorded for the album. Same with World Gone Wild, Good Time Tonight (I think that's the official title), Sea of Emotions (which made a Jack Blades solo album), One World (which made a Mickey Thomas album), and maybe some others. Once they decided to add a few more rock songs, they went back through and recorded World Gone Wild and Nothing Comes Close to add to the album. I can tell a small difference in Augeri's tone, so I'm pretty sure that at least the vocal was recorded at a different time compared to the album. Those two have a slightly more aggressive vocal than the rest of the album.

Hopefully one day they'll raid the vault...would love a set of those demos, professional recordings of rarely played live songs like this, etc. It'd be a lot more interesting product than another live album with Arnel singing Perry songs (no offense to Arnel...just not that interesting as a live album to me)

Yep, should of kept these songs for the next CD. I only go back to the Deen vocal songs and The Place in your Heart.
Never got into Faith in the Heartland like many did, and why did they feel the need to re-record this and the latter for Revelations I will never understand. Also remember Neal saying they were going to re-record Arrival with Arnel.
Did he (or they) want to erase Augeri's legacy as the lead singer for what 7+ years?

For me, Arrival is the last Journey album with passion (though Eclipse has got it's moments)

I enjoy Revelation because there's loads of fun songs and nice ballads on it, but it's all pretty meaningless
