TOTO pro-shot Atlantic City, New Jersey

Band sounds energized, tight, and great. No surprise there.

There's an infectious chemistry apparent - smiles all around.

At one point, Luke says that I'll Be Over You was supposed to be in Top Gun. I never heard that. I knew they were supposed to record Danger Zone and they had written Only You, which eventually made it on to KOD. Can anyone confirm?

Dennis - like Deen Castronovo in Journey - is a real franchise talent/secret weapon.

The band would be wise to hold onto him and to keep utilizing him.

Hopefully, maybe, even new music someday down the road. I always hoped Greg would be on more than just FIB.

They really do sound great. They just hit St Louis last week but had to miss it due to work travel.

I do recall SL mentioning years ago that they went into the studio to record a song for a soundtrack, but also didn't realize it was supposed to be for Top Gun. He basically said they just started messing around, and the track was supposed to be more of an upbeat rocker. But I'll Be Over You started to develop, and they just went with it and kept it for themselves. A bit hazy on the details of the interview.

I was at the Tinley Park IL show on Aug 9. and it was a great show, band sounded great. There was a huge crowd more than I ever expected to see for this tour. Probably around 18,000 or more. Crowd was really into the entire show. Christopher Cross and Colin Hay also were very good. This was a very good tour package and different from the same ol ones you see put together most of the time. I hope the success of this tour gives more opportunity for Toto to get out there.

It wasn't that long ago they had no profile to speak of in the US. What happened? :) Great development in any case.

The biggest factors (imo)....

-Africa, like Journey's DSB, had a big pop cultural moment which, in turn, fueled TOTO's resurgent popularity. It's still going strong....

- Luke became involved in managing the band. He seems like a shrewd businessman.

- Journey's multi-year arena Freedom tour helped with audience exposure. Both bands (Journey and TOTO) have rebuilt their audiences.

- BUT all of this wouldn't matter if the band didn't play their asses off. They are a great live act and always have been.
