I am a native Californian, and there isn't any place I would rather be living.

Angie, the statement about us falling into a big pond someday, that depends on which side of the faultline you live. I live east of the San Andreas Fault, and maybe someday my place will be beachfront property ! LOLOL :D

You mean Pooragain? The state is beautiful, but poor as sin. So poor that get this-

1) There is no State sales tax. So when you roll into a drive-thru at Wendys and ther price you see, is the price you pay.

2) You cannot pump your own gas...Repeat, you Cannot pump your own gas..Reason: Create jobs. Sounds like a Bush economic plan.

What's wrong with not being able to pump your own gas? You mean you'd rather get out of your car in the fucking rain and misfire with the fucking pump again, getting gas all over your good shoes, instead of having some high school kid do it for you?

That ain't a bad thing. And there being no state sales tax ain't a bad thing either.

Yeah jrnyjunky, I am quite well aquainted with that one, since I was born and raised right near the damn thing.

Still I live way east of that one too.

Where do you live at jrnyjunky?

Then you're cool.

I grew up in the South Bay, lived in SF for many years.
Lost the home I grew up in and my apartment in SF in the 89 quake.

Now I'm in Brooklyn and really love it.

So you are a Bay Area Kid too. That is really cool ! 8)

I am sorry that you lost your childhood home and apartment in 89. Yeah, that 89 quake did shake the hell out of the apartment I was living in in Antioch. Scared my kids and ex husband too. And stopped the World Series to boot !

The Hayward Fault is due for another really big shaker. From what I can remember from California History class in High School, that fault hasn't had a big one since the 1800's. I think also my grandmother's house sits right on the fault or is damn near close to it.

When did you move to Brooklyn?

Okay for this portion I'm with Dean'o
I would prefer lakes to ocean because of the three
reasons he stated and I think living amongst the five
great lakes is a treat indeed.
I have enjoyed it for 35 years and I live right across from a nice uninhabited island that families go to for the day.
So now I've agreed with you Sir....bring it on.
About Michigan....yup thats the one I pick.
Cherries almost as sweet as good sex, hunting, fishing,
amazingly beautiful autums and a kah-ton of inviting inland cottage lakes.

I am a native California girl. I love this state. We have everything- lakes, mountains, deserts, beaches. I like the coastal regions of our country, never have cared much for the middle ;). I have been to MN and I really like the state; got a good vibe there. I have a sister in Colorado, lovely to look at, but would not want to live there. I love the east coast, but the west coast is where it's at for me :D.

Here's a fellow-middle-CA'ian to tell ya. Too damned far to those beaches and mountains. And the air's lousy, and it's too damned hot in the summer.

She is talking about the Central valley from that toilet known as bakersfield to Turdlock(sorry KA), err, Sacramento. The most fertile earth on the planet, and the ugliest area in the US.

Okay people- I said middle of the country- as in the middle of the United States, not the middle of California. As for hot summers and air quality, I live in Santa Monica near the ocean, the weather is perfect and the air is rarely bad. We get the smog when the Santa Anas blow in late summer for a few days. I like the central valley, best summer fruit, almonds, cheese, and my family :).

Lula, you are lucky to be living near the ocean. I wish I could. I live in the Sacto Valley, and it gets miserable here in the summer.
