Commercially, it was the best thing that ever happened to Iron Maiden when Bruce Dickinson replaced Paul Di'Anno. They had success with Paul on Killers but Bruce has brought them to unbelievable heights with his contribution to the band.

Sorry Gordon...I was only able to come up with the three I had mentioned. Also, with the exception of Survivor, I don't listen to any of those other bands, so am not an authority on their history. Survivor is a very interesting case, because they were put on the map with Bickler singing "Eye of the Tiger", but had no other success until Jamison was brought in. I please ignorance on the history of the rest of the bands you mentioned.

Chicago was smart, they replace there high vocals{Peter S} with a much younger guy about 10 years ago and he can still sing, and has aged and looks like an original member {to most] that just agded well.Journey tried that but failed cause of their greed, and because the lead singer sang all of the songs

But Stevew2...I reckon Chicago lost their authenticity when they hired Jason Scheff to be a Cetera clone in 1985. They might have been able to exploit the afterglow of Chicago 17 for a couple of albums but by 1990 it was all over and Chicago have been a cynical nostalgia act ever since. Probably what would have happened to Journey had they done the same thing in the 1980s...

And Scheff might still look youngish but have you heard the guy sing recently? Here's a clip of two recent concerts...one featuring Cetera...and the other with Scheff. I know which show I'd rather be at....

I'm not going to apologize because the artists I listen to can move units. It means their talents are liked and appreciated, and is a great part of why all artists do what they do. To sell records. Sorry that the dudes you listen to have small followings, but that's not my problem. He was terminated and got, per Neal and others "in the know," commensurate severance pay.
Same thing happened w/ Augeri, an 8-year man and his departure was just as unceremonious and without tear-jerking farewell speeches, banquets and parades. Again contracts aren't permanent in this business.
Augeri was an 8-year man and let go in a similar fashion.
Difference is when that happened Augeri was the biggest pariah around places like these since Barabas and so the all-business hush hush way he was jettisoned was the funniest thing ever.
