wow, Slucey, really? I always thought you & I were like-minded. Well, we both are fond of SP's singing.
Bradley Manning? You think he is wrongly treated? He leaked classified US secrets away. Which harms US interests and our citizens abroad. You think he is a hero?

Someone explain that to me.

Iceland has no extradition treaty with the U.S., no history of human rights abuses like the other countries and was supposedly the place he initially wanted to go.
If he goes to Ecuador, how he can walk around not looking over his shoulder is beyond me. He better stay far away from that Colombian border. Their paramilitaries have no problem crossing borders if the price is right.

I think Don is right. He has a better chance being back here than going to Ecuador.
Maybe I'm being naive, but conspiracy theories are just that, theories. Hard for me to believe anyone in America, let alone the Govt., want the guy dead. I mean, that sort of scenario only plays out in the movie theatres.

Good with that. Slap him on the buttocks, whack his pee-pee and tell him in a hovering motherly voice - DON'T ever do that that again! Right...... There is no evidence to the contrary that he won't be hanged, lethally injected or, at best, sentenced to prison for life. He's toast if the USA ever gets ahold of him.

This has to be one of the best comments regarding this topic. It seems that people get distracted by the "side story" or something else put out by this administration just to try and keep people's focus off the real issues.

I'm a former lifelong registered Republican, now independent as of the last election who, 25 years ago would have called anyone who said the government violated the Constitution to spy on its own citizens a fucking nutjob conspiracy theorist... yet here we are today with conspiracy theory now conspiracy fact.

Not sure how you got that I think Manning was wrongly treated or a hero from me simply typing his name... but,

When the federal government uses the "enemy combatant" clause to incarcerate an American citizen for a fucking YEAR without charging him, something is wrong. That right there is no different than any other dictatorship or communist country, where you can be detained indefinitely, for any reason, at any time. That is not America. That is not what the Founders wanted for this Republic.

THAT is my point. That our government has stripped away the very lawful protections that protect all citizens.. and instead replace them with definitions that allow them to side-step due process.. and it appears some folks are OK with it.. which reminds me of an old saying about "Those who give up their liberty for more security neither deserve liberty nor security", which is likely to be the result of this apathy...

.. for all of us.

I've been disagreeing more and more with Glenn Beck lately but this is one area I agree with him on. If we don't straighten our course and correct some of these things, our government has the possibility of being the most intrusive and oppressive government ever.

Your reply reminds me of when a black co-worker called me racist names and slurs in the workplace. I complained about it to my superiors and there were witnesses who saw this person do this to me who also talked to the superiors. During the meeting in regards to this issue where all involved were present, the black person admitted to what they did to me but justified their actions by saying they was teaching me what it's like to be called racist names and slurs. The superiors were black so that was an exceptable behavior in the workplace.

You reply reminds me that clearly you have no idea what I meant by my post.

It also reminds me (and everyone else) that you will take any opportunity to use a post to tell a story that is not only off-topic, but nothing anyone would likely be interested in either..

Look....I'm only saying the guy will/should get his day in court. Why shouldn't he be made to face the US Justice system... just like any other person who broke the law? You say he's going to get whacked by the Govt. ... I say that's more likely to happen in screenplays.

Slucey...the other day, we were talking about Snowden not being here to face charges against laws he broke, and the rebuttal
was he should stay away because he would be wrongly treated. You interjected "Bradley Manning" after our posts. So, naturally, I assume you believed Pvt. Manning to be an example. Look, you make good points. No legal situation is black & white...there may be some grey mixed in there. I'm sure Mr. Manning's friends/family are going through hell, something we can't always appreciate, because we don't know everything. The US Justice Courts (in his case, Military), though, is all we've got to air out grievances. Is it 100% right? probably not...but, it's still the best system in the world. Unless, you don't agree with that assessment, either.

Peace.

I actually agree with most of what you said.... I just think what Snowden revealed is way more important than the way he revealed, or how he chooses to face the consequences.. that's his chosen burden to bear.. and justice under the law will find him soon enough.

However.. to not hold a government that abrogates, subverts and hides behind the very Constitution to the very same standard.. the very same one they want to use to hang Snowden with, is what I feel is more important.

"Eye on the prize".... and in this case.. it's not Snowden... he's the distraction.

I'm sitting here thinking to myself tonight that this government we have is a great big corporation. Everyone in it is bought and sold. They no longer work for us, the people, but for the people who give them the most money. In the days of good ol' Abe we would NOT be sending any financial aid to people who want to kill us (Muslims). No way in hell would any Muslims with radical ties be invited into the White House, as they have been, just this month. We would not be arming Syria (another group of Muslim USA haters). We would not be donating money to the Muslim brotherhood, as this administration has. Our country is feeding terrorists. You won't have terrorists, capable of world wide destruction, if they don't have the means to pay for their evil deeds. Yet, noone sees what is happening.

Now it looks like we are putting Amnesty before Border Control, but surely there are too many pages of the new laws for any of our lazy congress to read. They'd rather sit on their verandas, sipping cognac withtheir cronies, while smoking fine cigars. Immigrartion reform is going to pass in the most drunken manner. The program has more holes in it than swiss cheese. We are not going to convict these felons, but instead legalize them and continue to cater to their medical and welfare needs.......you know, the old "give birth to another kid and get a raise program"? Watch, as more free clinics are erected to serve them. Makes me mad as hell!

Why don't we focus on real issues? Snowden isn't one of them, but our government is. Why not go after and prosecute all the crooks in Obama's administration, including him?

It seems to me that B.O. thinks that the way he is aiding the Middle Eastern Countries is going to make them have a change of heart as to how they feel about the West (i.e. us) or there is some other sadistic\warped situation going on. As for amnesty before securing our borders, you'll never see a secured border with the current people we have governing this country. Regardless of public pressure to do so. They passed a bill in '86 to secure the border so we wouldn't be in this position now and all they did was build 36 miles of fencing then cut the funding for it. That should be a BIG clue that they have no intention of ever securing it. Both parties look at it as a way to secure more votes for themselves and keep a class of people that will rely on the government. You won't see "the crooks" in our government be prosecuted because our government is corrupt from top to bottom. They are are all in on "the fix". All that you see as far as trying to hold those accountable is just a dog and pony show for the public to make you think they are doing something about it. More and more it looks to me like we will crash and burn before any real change will be possible.

Yes, BC is correct. Politicians (whether Demo or Rep) are the least admired people...that is universally in agreement.
If they would spend less time infighting (all in the name of "principle") and actually accomplish something, we'd all be better off.

Looks like the B.O. administration's plan of "understanding" and "sensitivity" to the Muslim community is not working out so well.

LOL.... the POTUS gets his ass handed to him again.. after the Sandy Hook shootings Obama ordered the CDC, via Executive Order to do a comprehensive survey of studies regarding guns and gun violence in the United States, on the assumption that once the CDC produced the hard evidence that the US was a violent nation of wild-west shootouts, the American people would be eager to approve and fund future research while embracing strict gun control legislation.

Guess what.. The results of the study basically back every pro-gun rights argument made over the course of the last year.

1st and foremost , “Between the years 2000-2010 firearm-related suicides significantly outnumbered homicides for all age groups, annually accounting for 61 percent of the more than 335,600 people who died from firearms related violence in the United States.”

Meaning: the majority of annual gun-related deaths are due to suicide, not crime.

The report also finds that virtually all studies which “assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns” found the same thing. There are “consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies.” Further, “Defensive use of guns by crime victims is a common occurrence”, and “Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year, in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008.”

Meaning: there’s as much as a 10 to 1 ratio of defensive firearm use vs. offensive use... and a lower rate of injury for those who defend themselves with firearms than those who DON'T.

Finally the report finds (just as the FBI annual also reports): “Overall crime rates have declined in the past decade, and violent crimes, including homicides specifically, have declined in the past 5 years.” However, “Between 2005 and 2010, the percentage of firearm-related violent victimizations remained generally stable.”

The Obama ordered CDC report validates what has been argued all along.. that the country has a mental health problem, not a gun owner problem.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
