I think it's relevant because it once again highlights what many of us have known (although some have chosen not to accept), which is that this is an unethical dude. Transparency, schmanparency. It probably would've been a non-story if he would've just come out and said, "yep, I did it" instead of dragging his heels then trying to gloss over it by pulling Bill Clinton into the fold.
He's making a fool of himself, and contrary to his belief that he's doing us a favor by bowing down to other world leaders, it is weakening us, not strengthening our station in the world. Just my opinion, of course.

7 Wishes wrote:But, the fact that he's black has NOTHING to do with it, right? Since Dubbya did EXACTLY the same thing.
Go ahead, try to deny it.
I'll call your bullshit before you even post a word.

What the hell are you talking about here Dan? How can I argue with you, if I don't know what we're arguing about?

7 Wishes wrote:No, Jim - I've stated that I think Obama is a hypocrite and deserves to be called out for it.
That's a completely separate issue, though - people here berate Obama for doing the same things Bush did (and they said nothing about it at the time). THAT bothers me.

7 Wishes wrote:Specifically, I was referring to the whole "bowing to foreign leaders" non-issue. People who try to make hay out of it today said nothing when Bush bowed to the same individuals during his glorious "terms".

I agree with you on the bowing. Although Bush never went on an apology tour around the world either. Both to me are signs of weakness to other countries. We are the most powerful nation on the planet, and have done more good for every country out there than any other on the planet. Our leaders should not bow. Just saying.

Do you have tangible evidence that a bow reduces our nuclear arsenal and military superiority, and in your words, "is weakening us, not strengthening our station in the world"?
Bush's FUCK-YOU cowboy swagger did NOTHING to decelerate enemy states from going nuclear, so what difference does it make?
Ronald Reagan didn't bring down the Soviet Union by simply telling Gorbachev to "bring it on", it was finally achieved through talks with limited preconditions and mutual respect.
I'm glad this President isn't historically illiterate, and is secure enough in his patriotism to acknowledge both our mistakes and successes. It's long overdue.

Rockindeano wrote:You also need to learn international culture- bowing to another foreign leader on THEIR soil is a sign of respect, not weakness. Oh and as for the apology tour- what would you do if you inherited the absolute worst, most corrupt, and incredibly stupid administration ever, who went on a irresponsible rampage of cowboy diplomacy, and fucked every other country in the ass sideways? If you hadn't noticed, we were hated by just about every country in the world during the W regime. Now after electing Obama, say what you will, but we are held in higher regard than the previous administration's days. This whole attitude about "we are the most powerful country" bullshit is just stupid. Who the Hell cares? We are COEXISTERS of the planet, not the world's policeman. We need to give and take with EVERYONE else.

I pretty much agree with this - peace starts with cooperation, not with "we're the best and fuck the rest". That doesn't make any friends. Isn't it also a sign of strength to be able to admit when you've done wrong?

donnaplease wrote:Well now... I take that as a resounding 'no'.

The question wasn't directed at me. I couldn't care less about how a bow, curtesy, or fist-bump causes Obama's overseas Q-rating to fluctuate. Like issues of flag lapels and Bill Ayers, this is some seriously stupid shit. Like 7, I DO care about right wing hypocrisy - which you are showing in spades. Deano can be expected to present his rock-solid evidence the second you present yours.donnaplease wrote:Nice try at deflecting by bringing up Bush & Reagan though.
It's not a deflection. The Presidency does not exist in a vacuum. If you are not using the actions of past administrations as a yardstick, then just what BS standard are you holding Obama to? Something Glenn Beck supposedly saw in a coke-fueled vision from God?donnaplease wrote:As for my words, I stand by them, including the part that you so conveniently left out: my opinion.
EVERYONE on here is expressing an opinion. That what message boards are for. Nobody needs to say IMO after every sentence. What a cop-out. Back it up, or don't bother.
