In fact, the only other big American AOR band who would get blank looks if you mentioned them in the UK are... Styx. But that's fine by me! That group is embarassingly bad. :) But even THEY had a Top Ten hit here (with "Babe") whereas Journey hasn't ever had a hit single here.

Here's another bizarre fact re: which US bands 'travel' to the UK and which don't. It wasn't until 1987 - and the release of "Crazy, Crazy Nights" - that KISS became well-known here. During their make-up days they enjoyed virtually no success or fame in the UK. When I was a kid and went on and on about KISS people just said...who?

Pssssssssst, hey I love STYX!! I thought they were somewhat popular in London, okay maybe a little, during they're hey day?

 Actually I do like that song....and "Renegade" and "Come Sail Away"...but I know I'm not alone when I say that THIS is the worst rock song of all-time:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Fg8qVAoKxA

Yes, it's true to some extent....Styx do have fans in London - and the band packed out the Hammersmith Odeon here recently....whereas Journey didn't even play in London on the recent UK tour. Apparently the promoter felt that Journey's fan base were all from SCOTLAND or MANCHESTER....and that London - where NINE MILLION PEOPLE live - was not worth the risk.

How lame is that? Even SOUL SIRKUS played in London!

Anyway...that's enough resentments for one day. :)

This song is pretty good actually...and De Young's vocals are impressive on this clip. But what's the story with those two pug-ugly blonde people? :)

Sorry...that was SUCH a predictable choice wasn't it? But I'm genuinely FASCINATED by how bad it is!

Wow...De Young has really aged hasn't he? When was the Suite: Madam Blue clip filmed? Looked like late 80s/early 90s? Am I right?

And who is this Hal Sparks person? :)

It's growing on me...De Young's vocals definitely add something special to a generic sounding song....

Hard to imagine that Styx are any good at all without this guy....

If you don't care for "Mr. Roboto", I can guarantee that you won't like this one!! I'd probably have to say this is the #1 song that most Styx fans don't care for, okay they hate it - LOL

1996? God...what's happened to De Young? Has he been ill?

Honestly...Tommy Shaw and the other guy with no chin...or is that the other way around?....I don't get them at all ...De Young...yes, I can see it...but the rest of the band? Seem a bit wooden and uninspired to me. Got any guitar solos worth listening to?

Okay - will listen to "Lady" again...and report back. :)

Hey Larry - that's a really good song - I've never heard it before. Was it a big hit in the States?

I've always had a theory that Brits should NEVER record AOR - that it has to be American to be any good. But these guys could be an exception.

The only other UK band who could do AOR was FM. Ever heard of them? They didn't really make it - but they mutated into the group Thunder who had more success.

Anyway...here's an FM track from 1986...it's not exactly Foreigner although it tries to be...but pretty good for an English AOR group though....

Frozen Heart - FM
