Carl Palmer is an awesome drummer and, of course, Keith Emerson is one of the best keyboard players in the business. Lake is probably the slackard of the group, comparably, but he's not a bad bassist compared to most other players out there.

Did you ever hear the ELP album with Cozy Powell from the mid-80s?

It totally bombed...but I loved it...imagine classic ELP with a huge 80s production and Cozy Powell giving it some welly...great stuff.

Yes - the drumming was much less complex on the Emerson, Lake and Powell record...but it was more heavy and powerful in a brutish sort of way.
