First Night - Survivor

Why oh why didn't Journey hire Jimi Jamison in 1998?

For those that say JSS isn't Jrny, I'd say Jamison isn't Journey.
Bickler had a Jrnyesque style, though.

Jamison is my favorite Melodicrock signer, however.

That "Vital Signs" album is one of my all-time favorites by anyone. "When Seconds Count" wasn't bad, either.

Red 13 - I'm surprised you say that Jamison wouldn't be a good fit. My only reservtion is that Jamison is so associated with Survivor...so there would have been an image problem - but in terms of the music alone I'd love to hear Jamison sing the Journey classics.

Perry thought Survivor were Journey rip-offs didn't he? He once said that Jamison "has no class" for this reason.

What happened to Bickler after he left Survivor? Last I heard he was doing those great Real American Heroes Budweiser ads.

I don't get that. I don't think Survivor sounds anything like Journey and Jamison doesn't sound like or have the same vocal style as Perry. They may be in the same genre but there's nothing else similar there, in my opinion.

Yes, "Vital Signs" is a great album - but "When Seconds Count" just edges it for me. A true AOR classic from start to finish.

"Man Against the World" and "Rebel Son" are both towards the top of my favorites list.

Well, this was from an interview given in 1986 - so it's possible that Perry felt insecure about the Survivor's success during Journey's hiatus from '83 and '86. Who knows...

I've always felt that Jamison is quite similar - although Jamison has a much more direct and straightforward way of singing than Perry does.

What do you make of the "Reach" album? Do you know who's the vocalist on this?

I much prefer their first three or four albums. After that, their sound just got too commercial in comparison, not to mention that Ronnie James Dio was the perfect singer for that band.
