Awesome record...

I much prefer their first three or four albums. After that, their sound just got too commercial in comparison, not to mention that Ronnie James Dio was the perfect singer for that band.

Stargazer is certainly my favourite Rainbow song and Dio was the most talented singer they ever had...but I love the Graham Bonnet and Joe Lynn Turner eras too. The singles they released in the late 70s/early 80s are real AOR classics, I reckon - even though the albums were a bit weak overall.

JLT was never accepted by the Rainbow fan base though - in the UK at least. His nickmame was "The Poof".

I don't know a lot about him but I think he's a German guitar god, similar in style to Yngwie. JSS did like 4 or 5 albums with him in the 90s.

 I am NOT surprised! I have heard that Blackmore himself was instrumental in spreading that rumor about JLT.

Apparently, Blackmore was not always satisfied with JLT's stage presence, at one point after a gig grabbing him by the neck saying: "Stop pansying around, you are not Judy Garland!"

I remember reading a review of Deep Purple's Slaves and Masters gigs in the UK in 1991 in Metal Hammer: "Deep Purple was brilliant and Joe Lynn Turner was pure brilliantine!" :)

Anyway, I think he's got an awsome voice, despite his hamming tendencies.

LMAO @ u Matthew. U are funny. Puke Puke Puke on Air Supply. They totally suck sorry. I love Bread but most men don't. Plain & simple. Ok please please please tell me u are not a Fanilow (in fact I hope u dont even know what that means). That would be totally disgusting. If ur not & u like America tho, I might have to make an indecent proposal towards u as most men I know hate them. (Ok I have some lame ass tastes but I am a chick! It's allowed.)

Big Generator is phenomenal....doesn't it also have "It Can Happen?" or is that 90215?

That's on 90125, Red 13....which is phenomenal too...although I reckon Big Generator just edges it.

 A Fanilow! Don't worry JR - that's a step too far even for me (although "Mandy" cannot be denied) and please feel free to puke all over Air Supply....but America? That's a different story. What a great band. I've got almost all their albums and the first three are all-time greats...especially Hat Trick. And I'll even defend "Muskrat Love".

Gotta disagree with you two on this one...I've never cared much for "Big Generator" at all. I put it just below "Time and a Word" and "Open Your Eyes" in my Yes album rankings.

"Mandy" huh? Well I'll only tolerate that coz "Angel" like it & there's no denying his coolness. Awrite Matthew. You're doing ok in the music dept. by my standards :-) Let's see what obscure English bands we can dig up that these folks won't have heard of. How about Smokie? Or are they too northern for ur posh London ears? I love this song: Livin' Next Door To Alice

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcVLeUFW-AM

(But I prefer it w/the "Who the fuck is Alice" line.)

Yes. :)

How about Racing Cars? They were known as 'the Welsh Eagles' and had a big hit in 1976 with "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" Fantastic song...not on You Tube, though...

That "Vital Signs" album is one of my all-time favorites by anyone. "When Seconds Count" wasn't bad, either.

VS is at the top of my list, too.

JJ on vocals with JOURNEY would've been incredible. It could've resulted in an incredible mess, too - you never know.
