That "Vital Signs" album is one of my all-time favorites by anyone. "When Seconds Count" wasn't bad, either.

VS is at the top of my list, too.

JJ on vocals with JOURNEY would've been incredible. It could've resulted in an incredible mess, too - you never know.

Hey Fyre - good to see you on this thread at long last. I hope you're going to educate us about some of those Latin rhythms you keep banging on about. We might actually listen to you here. :)

Damn that should be on YouTube. I have a vague memory of that one & I know I liked it. I'd love to hear it again. But awww u don't like Smokie's Alice. How sad.

How about some old Chris de Burgh like "Don't Pay The Ferryman":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQ7ukCJifew

or "Spanish Train":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Knr7SUVkrPI

All most in the US know of him is "The Lady In Red" (his absolute worst song ever) so he's sort of obscure.

That's on 90125, Red 13....which is phenomenal too...although I reckon Big Generator just edges it.

Gotta disagree with you two on this one...I've never cared much for "Big Generator" at all. I put it just below "Time and a Word" and "Open Your Eyes" in my Yes album rankings.

That surprises me, Dave. From what I've seen of your musical tastes - which is A LOT now - I would have guessed that you preferred BG to - say - 90125 because BG is actually quite 'proggy' in comparison.

I'm not a huge fan of 90125 but I do like it much better than "Big Generator". The poppy-soundings songs on BG are much worse than those on 90125, in my opinion.

Have you heard anything from Juanes? He's a Colombian artist and his "Mi Sangre" album is solid.

It's true that "Owner of a Lonely Heart" is far superior to the AOR tracks on "Big Generator" - but equally I'd say that songs such as "Final Eyes" on BG are more true to the classic Yes sound than their equivalents on "90125".

Still...at least we totally agree on Relayer.

Actually JR...Smokie's Alice is a good 70s pop song - but I couldn't resist being snobby to a Northerner. :)

I love a crap ballad but that song is horrendous.

Okay..what other obscure UK acts can we dredge up?

How about this one? It's a bit New Wave for this board possibly..but I've always liked it.

Definitely mine, too.

About your KISS avatar: it's one of my all-time favorites. I don't know if a filter was used or if some other lab development trick was used but I love the stark, grey overtones. It has such a haunting effect.

I just saw the movie "O, Brother Where Art Thou" - WHOA! A SUPER movie! I believe it's the first movie to ever be entirely digitally enhanced. They used digital effects to produce a dusty, dry old photo effect that results in a similar haunting effect like the KISS photo. You've GOT to see this movie.

I took a shot of the "FREE" stamp in Cleveland years ago in the middle of a snowy Cleveland afternoon and got the effect naturally.

Hmmm... :? His style is mostly folk/rock, which I like. I don't see any Survivor resemblance at all.

Fyre - it's my favourite KISS photo too - although the Empire state Building shot comes close. I love the idea of KISS hanging around outside the Houses of Parliament of all places. KISS were completely unknown the the UK when that shot was taken ('75 or '76 I think) so god knows what the passers-by made of them.

I'm not sure if it's been digitally enhanced or if it's a screenprint. I used to have this photo framed on my bathroom wall (although this did feel like I was disrespecting Gene and Paul so I moved it to the corridor outside....and I'm sure that was more than you wanted to know)...and it was a straightforward black and white print back then.

I know exactly what you mean about O Brother Where Are Thou? It had that same colour quality which manages to look faded and enhanced at the same time. I actually wasn't a fan of the movie itself - even though I love so many Cohen brothers movies - but the music was great.

I've haven't heard Come Taste the Band in years - but I remember being underwhelmed. I'm not sure that Tommy Bolin really showed what he was capable of on that record.
