Savatage starting adding keyboards to their music with this album and this song features that new dimension to the band. Jon Oliva is no genius at playing them but they're used effectively. This is a great poignant, song, more along the lines of a power ballad.

Great song! ...TSO is coming to Austin on the 22nd of this month...good tickets still available...Thinking about going if we can spare the cash this close to Christmas...Thanks for cluing me in to some great music.

I love Keith Scott's soloing on this tune. A much underrated player, in my opinion.

This sounds quite a bit like thrash-era Metallica. The whole album is based on the comic book series "Spawn". The video was created by a fan of the series using clips from the cartoon.

Great tune..."Tormato" was a mixed affair. There's some really great stuff and horrible also, "Circus of Heaven" and "Arriving UFO" being two of the horrible ones.

So true Dave! Truly horrible....and despite it having three or four excellent songs I'd say that Tormato was by far the weakest album they recorded in the 70s....although Close To The Edge comes close...a minority view I know....

I love "Close to the Edge" but I will say that those three tracks are almost always much better live than on the album. That being said, I don't ever remember any Yes fan saying they didn't like that album. In fact, that's usually the most popular one. Shame on you!

The guy in my avatar is Paul O'Neill, producer of most of Savatage's albums and mastermind/writer/producer behind TSO (Trans-Siberian Orchestra).

It's in the post, third line down, after the album title...

Iced Earth has had several different lead singers, kinda like Yngwie Malmsteen in that respect. Jon Schaffer is the mainstay and rhythm guitarist. He writes most of the music as well. The current lead singer is former Priest singer "Ripper" Owens.

I love And You and I - and Siberian Khatru is pretty good too - but you're right - the production really lets this album down...it sounds so limp next to Relayer and Going for The One...and the live versions are usually much, much better.

Generally I think Yes were much improved when Alan White joined the band...another unpopular opinion amongst Yes fans...but Bruford made Yes seem a little lightweight at times for all the subtlety of his technique, don't you think?

I remember O'Neill's name from my old Savatage records...was he the guy who came on board after Max Norman for the Hall of The Mountain King album? Or was it the previous one?

No, I prefer Bruford. He's a much better drummer overall though White is certainly no slouch. He filled in when Bruford quit for the "Close to the Edge" tour with very short notice and basically picked right up where Bruford left off. Anyway, I prefer Bruford's jazzier more intricate technique to White's rock style. "Fragile", which is one my favorite albums overall, is one of the few albums that I will specifically try to listen to the drum track on occasion. Great stuff there!

Without looking, I believe you're right about his first Savatage production being HOTMK, but I'm not 100% sure on that. His influence is more clearly seen starting on "Dead Winter Dead" (1995). A lot of that album could very well have been on a TSO album if you removed the lyrics. In fact "Christmas Eve (Sarajevo)" by TSO, which has been the most requested Christmas song on radio for several years running now, first appeared on DWD. It is the exact same version as the TSO one, actually.

The Jeff Healey Band
Hell to Pay (1990)

I actually prefer this version of the song, even compared to the original. Peter Frampton also does a pretty good version of this.
