Glad To See Things Finally Moving Forward

First off, I'd like to welcome JSS to Journey. He's always been a tremendous vocalist, though his popularity has been mostly in Europe for the past 20+ years. Hopefully this gig with Journey will accord him equal popularity here in the States.
Now on to Steve Augeri. So sad to see it end the way it did.

Steve sang his heart out for us Journey fans for the past 8 years and often met with savage opposition, mostly for replacing the unreplaceable Steve Perry, for naturally sounding so similar to Steve Perry but also for the lack of any hit songs or major recognition the band and we Journey fans have become accustomed to in the past.

Of course most of us realize that noone was going to be able to step into Steve Perry's legendary shoes and have expectations through the roof. Anyone that knew of Steve Augeri before he joined Journey already knew he sounded eerily similar to Steve Perry, one of the main reasons he was hired in the first place.

As far as the lack of hits or any major star power in today's industry, there were too many things going against the band, no matter who fronted it, not the least today's musical landscape being so different from that the band flourished in during the late 70's and 80's.

Any chance the band had at chipping away at the stone was probably with "Arrival", however Sony basically dropped the ball on that one and spat in the band's face for daring to think they were anything special without Steve Perry. Sad, because there were probably a handful of songs on that CD that were strong enough to be pushed to mainstream radio and overall, the CD was a very good one.

So glad to hear that this past Summer's unprecedented attacks against Steve will not have the intended effect of destroying such a wonderful man and his career. I look forward to Steve's solo CD and the new Tall Stories and with any luck, to meeting the man, the human being, just one more time...so I can thank him in person for all he's done.

Once again, glad to finally hear the Official word and just where the band is going in the future. Jeff Scott Soto is one of the finest rock vocalists and songwriters on the planet and I have no doubt he will bring more exciting times to the band and it's fans.

Hope Steve Augeri, all the members of Journey past (Steve Perry, Steve Smith, Randy, Mike, Gregg, Aynsley, Robert, George and Aynsley) and present (JSS, Neal, Jonathan, Ross and Deen) and their families have the best of Holiday Seasons.

I think "All The Way" and "Higher Place" were both pushed to radio, but there was nothing that could give them the lift those songs needed to reach even moderate success. At that point, I think Sony pretty much lost interest.

What unprecedented attacks? The ones amongst fellow Journey fans were the ones I found most disturbing. I wouldn't say there were unprecedented attacks on Steve Augeri. For precedent, see what happened to Steve Perry when he couldn't tour behind Trial By Fire.

Read and understand.......John speaks the truth, we both used to get killed endlessly by Rich, the want to be MOD, and every other moron on BT that had some form of Augeri in thier username (Augerified, Augeriluva, ect...) for not falling down on our knees and worshiping Augeri-led Journey as the second comming.....the posts of the pants and the wiggle shit also drove me crazy as well. I for one will love to see if that place turns into something better for a change instead of the insider, private club mentality that has gripped it for years now.......I'm hopeful, looks like some are allready jumping ship......

I suspect that you will probably see some of the "Tiger Beat" Augeri fans jump ship, and I for one say Good Riddance! These people were NEVER Journey fans, and never even really talked about any vocal ability that Augeri had or didn't have. It was all about what they wanted to do to him (with Lydia's permission, of course). As I said, it was all rather embarrassing.

Just so I'm very clear, I wish Augeri well. From all accounts, he seems to be a genuinely nice guy. I said from the beginning that he stepped into an absolutely impossible situation (i.e. replacing Perry). I never had any issues with Augeri. His fans were simply too much for me to stomach! I thought he was a reasonably talented guy, who had no shot of replacing Perry, on his best night. I also don't blame Augeri for the whole lip sync debacle. Nobody will ever convince me that Augeri was solely responsible for that embarrassment. Should Augeri have walked away when it was quite apparent that he simply couldn't do the job? Absolutely! Having said that, every other member of Journey is every bit as culpable for allowing it to happen on their watch! I'm supremely confident they've all learned their lesson, at this point, and this will most certainly NEVER happen again!

As I said before. Unless you were a part of the band's inner circle, you knew nothing of what was really happening inside the band. People openly speculated and some were right in their speculation. Doesn't make it anything more than speculation.

As for myself, my opinion was always wait until the band says it and you can take that to the bank. Although I supported Steve and always will, the band is a business and business decisions are made all the time. Changing to Jeff is a business decision and as I've always supported the band and it's decisions, I support this one also.

Sorry you missed the show this summer. I've seen 3 tours with Augeri & then 2 shows this year with JSS. In 2008, I guarantee you that if you get to a show, you'll be amazed at the new jump in the step of everyone on stage. It did seem to me that much of the band was going through the motions on the last couple of tours with Augeri. Was it right for them to tour so much and wear themselves out? Of course not. But, at the end of the day we have a stronger and revitalized Journey, whereas at the beginning of this year, I was sure 2006 would be the last tour we would ever see from Journey.
