Same here.Curiosity was the reason why I bought Arrival...I was pleasantly surprised...to my surprise.

As for the DVD...it was by mistake.Yeah, someone bought it for me from abroad (the DVD wasn't sold in my part of the world) knowing that I'm a Journey fan but this person had NO idea that Augeri was the singer.
Actually,he wasn't a fan,but he grabbed it only because he saw the name "Journey" on it.Weird...lol.
After seeing the DVD,the curiosity made me buy "Arrival".

If you read back, this is how it got it got a little screamy on whocares and this other nitwit's part. I was debating w/ Matto and Sherrie the need to give perry the most credit for the 01 dvd sales and if people bought it knowing it wasn't perry singing.

Then I have one poster come in telling me to shut my piehole another come in calling me a fuckstick and doing a complete (ly wrong) poster psych profile on me, and I replied to their enquiries.
hmmm, poster psych profile. You would never do that would ya Red? 8)

Wouldn't risk doing it on you.

How's the skin graft job coming along? You know the attempt to cover up the 3 "6s" clustered on your scalp?

You had to go back to the days of slide projectors, feathered hairdos, capsleeves, and grainy images to find a smile.

Is that a covered wagon in the BG? :o

Omitting all sarcasms, everyone has valid reasons for Arrival’s DVD sales. The “Behind the Music” was immensely popular. Due to its success, a follow-up “Behind the Music (Director’s Cut)” was broadcasted. DIRECTV continues to offer free previews of AOR bands (Heart, Bad Company…). This promotion rekindles bands that we may have not had the opportunity to see in the past. Additionally, technology today enables us to acquire media from the entertainment industry. Some of these are lost revenues that are not considered in sales. Yes, we had the crude recording/duplicating technology in the past. The rate, in which we can do this, is at international levels. Blogs, fan clubs, forums… have replaced (some) the promoters of the past. Yet we have concert attendance with no prior or present knowledge of band members. Are we purchasing (ticket/media) a memorable moment of our past? Why would anyone purchase a vintage toy? It could be a doll or a car that interests you. The purchase could be a financial investment. Alternatively, could it be that you are trying to buy back the past?

Yes...and so was the setlist.

On the back cover, the first words after the setlist are: "Returning to the stage with a new lineup...."

It was also stated on a sticker on the front which was attached to the plastic that you take off when you opened the DVD.

So much so that Journey got dropped by Sony later that year....

They didn't get dropped. Sony offered to do another record with them and they declined, according to Neal.

I'm sure some did. Most probably picked up the DVD...saw "Journey" written on the front...and chucked it in the basket.

Is that how you go about selecting DVD's and cd's to purchase?

By all means enjoy the guy's tribute performance in 2001 ...but let's not pretend that it was the reason people bought the DVD. I'd say it sold despite Augeri's presence in the band.

"Tribute"? Not quite yet....

I think it was a combination of "despite" and "because of" his presence. I just don't think most people bought it expecting to see Steve Perry in jeans and tails belting it out like it was 1981. (That was really cool of your friend to get you the DVD because he or she knew you liked the band, Laura....I wish my friends were like that! LOL)

No. It has not.

Never happen. Not even close.

Ironically, "Arrival" is my favorite Journey album! And I had to be led kicking and screaming to even remotely look at a pic of Augeri. There are some great songs on that album. I could tell Steve was having issues with his voice and there were a few concerts where I thought the mixing was bad because the vocals were basically unintelligible and I was always in the first four rows, center. The only time I remember him NOT having issues was when I saw an early gig with Augeri in San Jose on the SJ State campus. It was my first non-Perry gig and Augeri really did impress me!

Now, I like the guy and I think he is at his best in the lower registers - before I ever even saw him I had heard Tall Stories and Tyketto, so I knew he could definitely sing.

I guess he was not as strong a vocalist - meaning he could not handle the rigors of the Journey catalog night after night for months on end. Heck, it eventually wore out Perry's voice!

Now JSS - that voice was meant to sing night after night and he had me after the first note came out of his mouth in Mountain View last year!

Ah, I'm just sad about the whole thing.

Three words guaranteed to undermine the credibility of any statement ...."according to Neal".

So Journey got an offer from a major label in the US...turned it down...and ended up signing with a tiny independent label in Italy instead?

I'm not sure this version of events portrays the band in a better light to be honest...although I can see that it does put a positive spin on Augeri's time in the band.

Is that how you go about selecting DVD's and cd's to purchase?

No it isn't. But as we well know Journey have ended up with a huge casual fan base who buy tickets for the shows without realising that Perry has left the band - so I'm sure not can can assume that everyone was eagerly reading the small print on the DVD.

"Tribute"? Not quite yet....

Imagine if Jereremy gets the job and Journey release a DVD of him singing the old hits. Why would this be any more or less a tribute performance than the one we saw in 2001?

One might think being a true-blue vulgarian disqualifies me from recognizing class.
In fact, rolling about in filth daily renders me uniquely qualified to identify dignity and grace when it steps into the room.
Red13 is pure class.
Most of all, he is a friend who will have your back even when the chips are down.
No, wait - ESPECIALLY when the chips are down.
Its fitting that he is a resident of Philadelphia, the little city that could, the birthplace of cinematic icon Rocky Balboa – afterall, he carries himself with the humility of a mid-weight underdog, while simultaneously having the indomitable spirit of a world champion.
Call his location serendipitous or call it blind stupid luck, I’m just glad he’s around.
And I’ll be damned if I sit idly by as you drag a good man’s name thru the mud.

Actually I feel bad about the animosity between 13 and Suz as well as the dust up between him and Socrates yesterday. I think maybe the bad impression they both got of him happened because he and I were throwing shit back and forth at each other. Image

They had no way of knowing that 13 and I don't take each other seriously in those exchanges, it's just the nature of our stormy relationship. If one of us touches a sore spot or gets truly annoyed we usually take it to PM and straighten it out.

Proving again how little you know about me. I've not asked a solitary soul for "support" in this thing in which YOU started addressing ME and then totally overreacted to my question "6 words for you. So what about KiJ ana carter?" Andrew is more than welcome to post the existing contents of ANY pms of mine asking someone here to give me a tesimonial.

What you're seeing instead is other people (even those like Dave CT and TNC who I've had donnybrooks with) weighing in with opinions of me of stictly their own volition. these people have observed my posts long enough to understand what has happened here. Ego? Could give a shit less.
