Rick, although Metallica has gone down hill the last 10 years, They have tons of great songs. The band has solid musicians and theymanaged to creat a sound that anyone will recognize.
I personally love anything they did pre Black album. Now Black album wasnt too bad , what it did for Metallica is it opened up the doors to many people who never gave them a fair chance. The price the band had to pay though was gettin on a rollercoster that just continued going downhill and never back up.

I'm not a metal fan. I know they were hugely popular, but I would have never thought they would be running ahead of Queen or Van Halen, or Zeppelin. But I suffer from musical myopia. I like what I like and don't listen to much else.

Sorry, but The Beatles should run away with that. Even though I prefer VH and Led Zep to them.

Um, no they shouldn't. If "Pansy Pop" ever becomes a category they'll win hands down, but there was little or nothing "rock" about them.

Think about the state of rock and roll when they started and the impact they had on all of the bands who followed them. That's why they are the greatest rock band ever.

The Eagles should be #2, BTW.

Fiddle sticks. I always hear people arguing who invented rock and roll. It was The Beatles. No, it was Bill Haley and the Comets (which many musical historians regard as "The advent of rock and roll.") No, it was Chuck Berry. And on and on and on. What I do is this...I judge you by how your music sounded. I don't give a shit about "impact" and all of these other phony, bullshit accolades people love to through at these mop top nerds. Their music was boring, repetitive, drug induced feces. That's how it impacted me. The entire "impact" argument is a tidy way to mask the fact that much of their music was simply garbage.

Yeah yeah I know. If it wasnt for Elvis, no one would have made it tho & there might never have been rock & roll. (I'm a closet Elvis fan. That voice was amazing.)

Saint John you are entitled to your opinion but you are very much in the minority. Answer this for me: Why does almost every great classic rock band mention/cover The Beatles if they are so irrelevant? :?:

My mom listened to the 8 track where they're looking over a balcony ( have no idea what the name of the album is). Out of all of her 8 tracks, which included The Eagles, Elton John, Roseanne Cash, Waylon Jennings and a few others, that was the only one I couldn't stand. All of the songs sound the same.

With all due respect, I disagree! Thanks to my post their arguement didnt go any further,,,,
Why do people take the jokes so seriously these days,,, is November the anti-joke/anti-fun month? Is the Holiday shopping bringin so much stress that everyone is so ouchy now?
Drew, You can not tell me that you seriously thought that it was a serious picture I put there,,,,, and you all of people should know that once in a while something like that changes the atmosphere here and takes away from the hostility that was startin to grow in this thread before I posted that!

Now kindly press Caps Lock mate,

Happy Holidays
