Dan, You seriously dont know who Marcel Jacob is?
He has written over 100 (great) songs for/with Jeff and has played with him in bands such as Talisman, Yngwie, Eyes, Human Clay and Humanimal.
Marcel can smoke Ross (& Neal for the matter) away
I bet you , he could and WOULD tell Journey to fuck off, if the opportunity came up.
I was pretty sure he was in Talisman, but not certain. The bands you mentioned haven't ever had a song played on any radio station I listen to. Journey has. This guy is a nobody and his blog is as about as important as a rubber crutch in a polio war.
Not all of us listen to radio hits only,,,,
You are one of the few I can't call out on this. You're a true Soto fan (and his other projects) and not one of the convenient "Johnny come lately" ones. You liked his music and style and didn't become enamored with him because you got to meet him. I respect that.
There better not be anything wrong with being a new JSS fan that had come to know him through Journey. I didn't know a thing about JSS until I started visiting MR.com, yeah, but after I purchase 3 JSS solo albums, 4 Talisman albums, Soul SirkUS, and Yngwie Malmsteen's first album and listen to them all in-depth.... I like to call myself a JSS fan. Never met him, either, though I'd love to one day.

And since when does radio play truly have a bearing on how good an artist is? Marcel Jacob is a top bassist in my eyes, very original approach and incredible groove.
Outstsanding point(s). But after 20 years and at least 5 bands if you haven't had a hit you probably don't have enough "street cred" to be blogging about what Neal Schon and John Cain (over 170 MILLION units moved between the 2) should or shouldn't do!!! And if you do, which is fine, people shouldn't come here with the mindset that because he said something it's worth 2 dead dicks!!!
as opposed to the way You like it, 2 dicks alive![]()
You missed a golden opportunity there, buddy. You're presentation was so poor it lost it's funnines....Lost In Translation, perhaps?![]()

Not a damned thing wrong with that, sir. Jeff impressed some new people with Journey and any new fans he got through his talents are more than deserved and legit.

So what is your previous post about then? I was a fan way before I met him. Are you saying once you've met them, you are no longer a serious fan.

Whoa....170 million units? and Between them? WTF is that supposed to mean? Like Cain has moved anything and Neal hasn't sold jack in terms of individual units.
Please provide a link to this 170 million.
I don't think you can.

BTW, why the heck do people feel the need to change their addy's? As a long-time visitor, I like to think I know everyone here. I just figured out EgoCrusher is Behshad. And TVL, The Voice Lover as she was first known, is now BlueSkies. And where is AR (ArrivalRules)?

annie89509 wrote:I have the utmost respect for JSS. When the talk first came to light about a year ago that Journey "was thinking" about re-recording the old hits, JSS stated here on this board and then in an interview brought over here that the rumors weren't true, he "couldn't possibly do them better than Steve Perry. That's why they are called classics." So the idea was scrapped, or so we all thought.
I will always wonder if these JSS statements played a factor in his being fired. We know now that Neal/Jon were dead set on re-creating those hits, and they found the perfect person (Arnel) to do it. It remains to be seen what the final product will look/sound like.
I will give the new songs a fair listen, but I know I cannot listen to the "re-creating" of the old hits, because it is a slap against SP and his fans, imo.

Perhaps so they could be a 50 year old band still rocking....
Bon Jovi changed direction to suit a couple of time snow and they are still going strong as ever.

No, they're not. And they have their original singer so they can go in whatever direction they please. Imagine if Journey had done ROR with someone other than Perry. You think it would have sold 3 million copies? Fuck no. It would have doomed them...just as "changing direction at this point, a time a LOT less friendly than those, would.

Fair point SJ,
But my point was more the fact that a direction change is not necessarily the evil thing some make it out to me. JSS could have done the old with the new.
But....that's all said and done and been debated as often as Titny Spears have proved she is a moron.
Looking forward to hearing what's to come.

ProgRocker53 wrote:Saint John wrote:Oh yeah...Brian May's sappy thoughts again. If he was so impressed with Jeff he should've hired him for Queen. Journey did go with option 4...just not his option 4. Arnel doesn't look like Steve Perry and they're making new music with him. What the fuck else do people want? Fuckin' crybabies. May's got a viable rocking group. He should keep his nose out of Journey's business. Either that or at least attack a real poser band...say Bon Jovi or Def Leppard. I guess it's OK for your show to be pre-recorded shit if you have the original lineup. But he'd rather attack a group that is doing the exact same thing they were going to do when his buddy was in the band. Play the hits on tour and record a new album. What a douchebag.
Thing is though, Journey's going to put out an album with Arnel that, as far as I can see, will have a 90% chance of staying 100% within the Journey sound without breaking any new ground or progressing at all. With Jeff, Journey had a chance to completely change their sound and go into what had been uncharted territory with the band. Arnel's a great singer, yes, but with JSS the band had an opportunity to explore a wealth of other influences. I agree with so many of Brian May's points and hold him in a higher artistic regard than Journey as a whole, because he's changed and reinvented what he's been about several times.
