I couldn't add Aikman to the list 'cause if he wouldn't have had that talent on the O...he wouldn't have won shit. Take a look at our '89 season. He was nothing before Smith and Irvin. Wow...this from a Cowboys fan too.
Now...most of you know that my favorite of all time was Staubach...but I couldn't add him 'cause I was born after his last regular season game. But a VERY Honorable Mention to him. Danny White was a kick ass QB comin' out of Staubach's shadow, though. Throwing up the most TD passes in single season history for the 'Boys. So...he got my vote over Aikman.
Liam...
I have to applaud you for being honest about Aikman. I have ALWAYS believed Aikman to be one of the MOST OVERRATED QB's to EVER play in the NFL! The guy played 12 seasons and only ONE TIME threw for at least 20 touchdowns in a season (he had 23 in 1992)! By comparison, Brett Favre has thrown for more than 20 touchdowns 13 times, Peyton Manning has done it EVERY season he has been in the league, and both Tom Brady and Joe Montana, who are both more well known for winning than they are for putting up big passing numbers (obviously, this season was a bit different for Brady), have both passed for more than 20 touchdowns for 6 seasons! Aikman also NEVER once threw for more than 3500 yards in a season. Considering he had some pretty good receivers around him (Alvin Harper, Michael Irvin, Jay Novacek), these are pretty astonishing numbers, for a guy in the hall of fame! In fact, I'd say Aikman may be the worst QB in NFL history to be inducted into the hall of fame. I watched the guy's entire career, and never once did I think "I'm watching a great, hall of fame, quarterback"! I think if most people actually looked at Aikman's numbers, they would be shocked at just how mediocre the guy was! I think Troy Aikman belongs in the hall of fame, as much as Alvin Harper does!
The only other thing I'll say about your rankings is that you need your head examined if you truly rank Favre and Danny White over Tom Brady! I personally think Brady is better than both Marino and Elway, at this point, but it's at least a good sports debate to talk about that comparison! Brady passed Favre, long ago, when it comes to being a field general, making the right decisions, and winning games! For me, the passing yards are beyond irrelevant! Brady will NEVER play as many years as Favre has played, because he simply has no desire to. I think Favre has been a great player in the NFL, and deserves to be in the hall of fame. That said, among the top 5 QB's ever, he simply isn't in the conversation, in spite of all of his passing yards and touchdowns! I realize that you despise the Patriots, but if you're a true football fan, you have to be honest with what your eyes are telling you! I never liked Dan Marino, but I would never deny that the guy was a great player and belongs in the conversation with the greatest QB's ever!
