All the live versions I've ever heard Perry put that extra beat in there during the verse...."You can hear the thunder of their - Cries..." I never "felt" that delivery, and I don't know why he stuck with it on the FTLOSM tour. I always thought the live versions were much looser than the studio versions as well....No doubt there was a special place in their heart for that song considering its history.

He did it to fast, live, and I felt his vocals where on there way out when I saw him in 86, on some songs. When did he record Only The Young, 1983?? Big difference in his voice between 83 86, and 94.I dont mean to put Steve P down, he is awesome, just saying never heard him do a decent live version of this song. Someone give me one though ,I would love to hear it.

Even though your a Meeechigan fan welcome. Actually Ive never had any issues with their team, actually root for them each year when they play THE cant beat the SEC Ohio State University. Florida cost themselves the Crapitol One Bowl, too damn cocky and arrogant stepping onto the field. They got caught in their own hype! Plus Carr put a pretty good package together, yes I will give them credit. Tell me-how is it you live in SEC territory and are a Wolverine??? Back to topic now-

Mcfadden will have a great NFL career but why call Tebow names???? Theyve met head to head twice now-once in the 2006 SEC championship game and then last December in the Heisman ceremony and guess what??? TEBOW WON BOTH!!!!! To hell with Arkansas, they have a piece of shit coach in peetrino who likes to screw people over. He'll do the same to Ark, wait and see.

You are right, SteveW. Have collected quite a few ROR concert cd boots and, sadly, it was obvious SP's voice was not what it was in the earlier years. Songs were rushed, and he had gotten quite husky sounding. Although, I would kill to hear WCTNGOF from him just once.

Some of those '86 boots are painful, although great, to listen to. It's obvious that he's struggling, but Steve being Steve, he just tries that much harder. You can actually hear him pushing his voice way too hard to try to hit that perfect note. He was a true showman.

Steve blew his voice out twice on tour, once during Frontiers, and another during the Raised on Radio tour. I can't imagine the kind of pressure that he must have felt to just KEEP GOING. No human could have maintained the pace that Perry did during his tenure with the band.

My take on it is that he did it for his brothers in the band that didn't pinch their pennies as well as he did. He knew before Escape that his voice was in trouble with that touring schedule. HH was a good promoter, but he was also a slave driver.

Darn right, Rick. HH is a great manager, but the way he has dumped on SP and the band Journey that made him rich and famous is not right. No class at all.

Here's a version of "Only The Young" by Perry on his solo tour of 1994:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DY1LSm9K5fI

It's painfully obvious that Steve was starting to lose his range at this point in his career. Who can blame him for retiring and leaving his legacy intact? I think it was a very smart career decision. As much as we all miss him, I think he did the right thing. Look what happened to Augeri. Is that the way we wanted Perry to go out? I think not.

Voyager, damn youtube is not working for me tonight, but i have seen all the clips of FTLOSM. Of course, you are right. Steve is a perfectionist. As he has said, he is his own worst critic. If he is not happy with his voice, we will never hear him sing again.

I saw him do WCTNGOF In 1986 and he blew the fucikng roof of the place. I wish I had the boot of that concert, it was sold out. The whole place just shook they where rocking that hard. Ithink it was early in the tour
