I disagree. The show was far from awful. I don't care what anyone says, Arnel can sing, and sing well. His diction is an issue for me, as were his oooooh's and yeeah's at odd times, but, he interacted with the crowd like no other Journey singer, and seems to be able to knock out the high notes with ease. He got a little flat here and there, but the strange little dude from the Philippines was scared shitless.

And everyone's entitled to their opinion. I still think the show was HORRIBLE.
But as far as "interacting with the crowd like no other singer has"....that's just WAAAAAY off. I forget...did you see Journey when JSS was at the mic? If you didn't...you missed a LOT of energy and interaction with the crowd.

Yes but JSS is LONG gone now

Yup...and it was a HUGE mistake to drop him.

Well i'm not going to argue that it was a mistake. But Journey would of not had success with JSS any more that they will have with Arnel, so they are not in a worse position that they where before.

Actually...people were starting to take notice of Journey again when JSS was up front because he was mopping the floor with Def Leppard on a nightly basis. He brought the Perry loons who said "I'll never see Journey without Perry" back. He sparked interest. Now with Arnel people like me are saying "Wow...it's sad that this band is just a revolving door of lead singers to keep the 'legacy' alive". And Arnel is a sub-par singer for Journey. Plain and simple.

We are kidding ourselves thinking that Journey were actually getting noticed.

And he ain't coming back. But I'm sure you can catch him in concert. JSS was good enough to finish the tour and after that, the band decided to go elsewhere. THANKS JSS-You are part of the fraternity known as Journey forever. Now...it's Arnel's turn.

Um....
You may want to check your sources.
Don't believe me, shoot Andrew a PM and ask
him what the "Industry Buzz" surrounding Journey
was like when Jeff was fronting the band.

No use re-hashing all of this, its old news.
But Journey gave up on their last chance at
making any kinda commercial splash again.

Arnel is the one that will lose out big time here.
He's recorded a new album w/these guys and I honestly hope
it is a good one, at least as good as Arrival.
But he's gonna get shafted like Augeri because he won't
get to showcase it live, it won't get promoted so he
won't get any radio/video play and he won't get any
real royalties for all that hard work in the studio.
He'll have to tour relentlesslyif he wants to have any
financial gains from this partnership.

A small bloke from the phillipines getting the chance in a life time to front Journey, record an album and go on tour, whilst making a nice some of money - yes im sure he will lose out big time if/when he is "shafted"

You say this:
But Journey gave up on their last chance at
making any kinda commercial splash again.

But on this very board we have this:
http://forums.melodicrock.com/phpBB/vie ... hp?t=32869
Journalist Request: Fan input for Journey article
Hey everybody,

I'm a staff writer at GQ Magazine, and I'm working on a feature story about Journey for an upcoming issue.

If Journey was good enough and talked about enough, you know the industry buzz with JSS then why is it only NOW that GQ wants to write about Journey?
GQ will be on every magazine stand from grocery store east to grocery store west and beyond. Not just a industry rag but full mainstream publication. So then...did they really give up their last chance? Or did they just re-shuffle the deck to get a better hand?

And for what?
2-3 years down the line no one outside these forums will know
who this lovable little guy from the phillipines is because Journey
will probably be parked in the garage by then and this album will
never have been properly promoted or showcased.

I'm sure he'll get the royal treatment when he heads back home though
Face it, Little Rudy got himself in a bad situation that only looks grand
"on the surface". Just ask Mr. Augeri...
But hey, he'll get my $10-15 cuz I'll probably be
one of the 20K or so that buy this new album.

I, for one, am reserving judgment about Arnel until the new record comes out. As for a GQ article, I'll believe it when I see it in print.

You really are a first class piss-pott

"And for what?" - what exactly is that commen supposed to mean.

Lets say 3 years from now and Arnel is shafted by the band,

So Arnel you made a nice bit of money, got to live your dream and sing infront of thousands of people and toured the world over the last couple of year, but was it really worth it?

Of course it fucking was.

Because they are exploiting this little feel-good story
of the underdog from the Phillipines coming to America
to live his dream...

Plus it's no secret that Journey, for some strange reason, has
some of the most deranged, hardcore, emotional fans on the planet
and these kind of forums have been noticed. I am so
proud to be a crad-carrying member of this elite crowd

Trust me, GQ's intent has nothing to do with telling the world,
"Move over Mr Perry!!! Journey's back and they're the next Big thing... Again!"

Not sure what a "Piss-Pot" is but,
if you can fuck yourself with one,
here's to hoping you have one near by

My comment meant, if I need to explain it to you like you
are a 5 year-old, to question if this will all be worth it in
the end for Arnel considering how the past 2 singers have been
treated by this band, especially Augeri. Not to his bank account or
his soaring fame in the Phillipines but to him and his talent and his voice.

Damn, I am looking out for the little guy and getting
called a Piss-Pot by the General in Pineda's Pinata Army...

Carl,
You might as well give up bro,,,,,
Youre damned if you do, youre damned if you dont....
The PinedaPinataArmy (good one btw) are way too defensive , sensetive AND insecure.
So if you even try to say something positive , they take it as sarcasm, turn it around and use it against you.
take care, you piss pot you!

In all fairness Carlitto when Jeff was asked if he would get into his "bad situation" if he had known how it would end up. He
said Yes. That tells me it's not a "bad situation" at all.

I see your point, bro but take into account
that Arnel does not have the same "career"

I hate repeating myself...
Because Jeff was not the "feel-good" story that Arnel is
and Management hadn't started a major promotional blitz
that Jeff AND Augeri deserved. Would they have done it
for a new album w/Jeff? We'll never know but I'm willing to
bet you don't see it for Arnel's album.

The last 2 singers were treated just fine. Augeri went from a 5 digit salary as a Gap maintenance manager to a guy that probably made several MILLION dollars over his 8+ years. As for Jeff, he filled in nicely and pocketed several HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS for less than a year's work...exponentially more than he would have made during that time frame. Both guys made out exceptionally well before bumpy exits. Too many fucking cry baby fans wanted fairy tale endings, but this is rock and roll, not Cinderella.
