Cyndy's & Lora's thoughts on the HH interview

Postby Lora » Sun Mar 30, 2008 10:13 am

After reading everyone's thoughts on the HH interview, we thought we'd add ours. As we have said before, HH gave us our start with the Journey Force which became Fan Asylum, the company we have run with Tim McQuaid for the past 24 years. HH was always good to us as fans and employees. We could (and did) sit and listen to his stories for hours and never be bored. Journey would not be Journey if it were not for HH. The interview brought back many memories of how creative & brilliant he was as a business man.

With that said, many people accept all he says as fact even when it contradicts other credible sources (Steve Lukather, Nuno Bettencourt, David Pack, Joe Benson). HH admits he has had no contact with SP in years so has not heard him sing. We had lunch with Steve a few weeks ago and he played us some recent demos he has been working on. We have heard him sing.....recently. He has definitely not lost his gift - the ability to touch the listener's heart. It is subjective as to whether or not you prefer the soaring vocals of Infinity or the timbre/texture of his voice on later albums, but he has the same amazing voice that beautifully conveys the feel and message of each song.

There are no confirmed plans for these songs, so we haven't commented on this subject before. It's up to Steve as to when/if he is ready to put new material out. After hearing the demos, we can only hope they will see the light of day sometime down the road.

We just wanted to share what we can of our experience with you guys. We have been into music for a very long time and have seen and heard just about everyone. We are not SP cheerleaders/loons. If Steve's voice wasn't up to standards, we wouldn't be making this post now.

HH seems angry because he feels that SP messed up "his formula" and his business model and feels it cost him tons of $$. As "The Force," we were part of that business model and suffered a similar loss as Journey was our primary client at the time. We moved on without bitterness and without playing the blame game. We have kept in touch with some of the Nightmare/Nocturne crew and they also seem to be puzzled by HH's anger after so many years.

We still love Journey's music and are proud of our part of Nightmare & Journey's history.

Thanks for the most insightful post, Lora. I am also baffled by the bitterness that HH has exhibited. The guy REALLY needs to let it go, because it's simply not healthy. As I've said before, I give HH all the credit in the world for bringing Perry and Schon together. It doesn't change the fact that I think the guy should just shut his piehole! I have yet to hear Perry say a single disparaging word about ANYONE, ever associated with Journey. He has ALWAYS taken the high road, and HH would do well to emulate Perry's behavior! People bitching and whining about Perry being a "prima donna" means nothing to me. Perry was THE STAR of the show, and guys with his immense talent don't get where he got, without having an ego the size of Montana!

Lora, you don't know what a breath of fresh air that post was. Thank you so much.

Could you tell SP that we worked our asses off to get him to be the #1 singer of all time on votenumber1.com. I'm sure he'll be pleased that he was only narrowly outdone by the late, great Mr. Mercury.

BTW, we know votenumber1.com isn't a major polling site, but it was a great competition nonetheless.

One more thing Lora... please, Please, PLEASE convey to Steve that there are legions of fans who desperately want to hear him sing, with TODAY's voice. We UNDERSTAND that his voice is not the same voice that originally sang DSB or LTS, and we ACCEPT him just as he is TODAY, because we are confident in his ability to touch us with his voice, and with his heart. That's his magic. Each time he sings, we not only HEAR him, but we FEEL him as well. I have never experienced another performer who shares the ability to do this the way he can.

I will be praying that he has the courage and desire to share his God-given gift with us once more.

OMG, how exciting to read this! I hope with all my heart that he will choose record again; but, what's more important is that he's happy in whatever road he decides to choose. I wish him all the happiness he deserves.

Do you see that? In the distance? It's Spider-Pig!

And he's FLYING!

I "thank you" for your comments. I enjoy the perspective of people who lived through those years of fame, fun, frustration and fortune. But the thing is...I find your comments the same as having one of those others come here with first hand reports regarding music or his voice. It's like a ping pong event...info bounces back and forth between one to another to another and people rejoice and clammer to shake your hand, kiss your cheek or applause. For some reason I'm more frustrated with your report than any of the others. True, the man does what he wants to do when he wants to do it. Yet there he is bringing his music to the table and playing for you his music and sharing his "voice". I am not saying; wow, that's not a great thing. I'm just not jumping up and down and cheering. I'm a cheerleader! Most of the things he does and promotes I'm yelling the loudest. I'm not here to critique. I'm trying not to chastise but Hell there comes a time when "the time has finally come". Perhaps there will be another legacy or perhaps not. I don't care if he never sings again but don't tease people with those small bites; with those tidbits... Your words might negate what HH has stated it just might soothe some but it just frustrates me a bit more. The bottom line is...when will he ever be ready? I've always said I don't know anything about the high notes or how long he can hold them; what I care most about is the way in which he sings from his heart and the emotions which come from his soul. Just don't tease me.

Lora and Cyndi you didn't have to say anything at all on the HH interview but you did....so THANK YOU for letting your voices on this be heard and for giving us some valuable insight. :)

Just one voice....singing in the darkness....all it takes is one voice shout it out and let it ring.....just one voice....it takes that one voice and everyone will sing.......and Steve is that one voice.... :)
