let us not forget that schon and cain were also band members and chose to go along with perry on this.

The only thing they "chose" was for Nostrildamus not to pull the trigger with the gun he had to their heads. It was go along with his demand or watch him shelve the band again. It's kind of a carjacker making you drive and the cops trying to give you a fucking speeding ticket. They were guilty of nothing in that instance...nothing. Herbie, the classy motherfucker he is, even made sure they got paid. Nostrildamus is probably still pissed about that.

We've since learned from Herbie Herbert that Nostrildamus never entered the room without his team of lawyers. Some things never change I guess. Most cowards hide behind lawyers, though. It's easier than facing tough questions.

So what you're telling me is this...Perry couldn't wait a few months for Smitty to learn how to play a click track after Journey waited over 3 years for him to tour? Interesting. Furthermore, Perry forced his way into the producer's role. I guess the 16 million or so units moved with their prior 2 albums wasn't good enough for him. ROR moved like 2 million units...he sure showed them!!! Perry stripped the band of background vocals, took away the freedom of of impromtu live parts with the implementation of the "click track" and most importantly introduced CANNED VOCALS. That's what the click track was for...to trigger pre-recorded harmonies. It's all right there...the guy went from a singer, to a producer, to the manager...all leading the band in a downward spiral. Things were best when he kept his mind to singing and not everything fucking else. Friga was right...he got LSD (lead singer's disease).

Hah, get your facts straight, Buster! Perry didn't "force" his way into anything. The Journey guys offered Perry the job. It was said that Smitty made the suggestion after Steve did such a great job with ST. (True, it may have been a carrot to get Perry to come back, instead of staying solo). The band even said there was some irony there since the guy that wanted SP to be the producer of their next album eventually got himself fired. Nobody can say why ROR only sold 2M. They did have 5 Top40 hits from that album. Maybe they didn't tour long enough, maybe the music biz is changing. Who can say for sure who's to blame? Escape sold what? 10M, and Frontiers 6? There was already a decline there in their sales. He "introduced canned vocals with ROR?" What are you smoking? They were ALREADY using canned (bg) vox in their tour sets with Escape and Frontiers (listen/look at those Chain Reaction concert boots), Mr. Know-it-all! Gregg Rolie was(is) an excellent vocalist. When he left, it seemed that was when they resorted to "canned" bg vox.
You know, SJ, I have a lot of things to do than to sit here all night going back and forth with you. Like NIG said, 6 months ago you love the guy, now you want to bash him any chance you get. We that have been on MR longer than 2 years remember when you first joined this board. You couldn't praise him enough, predicting that he would be

No, Herbie TOLD the guys in the band that Perry was going to be their next singer and to get used to it. The other guys weren't sold on it at the time since, as Gregg said back then, "We wanted someone who could scream".

Oh and Herbie is the pillar of truth? The man can't tell the same story twice within a 10 minute period.

Schon is a greed ball, not to mention he cant keep his tool in his pants. His comment in the article starts that he doesn't feel SP should be making any money off of Journey. Let's remember that the majority of the songs that were re-recorded have Perry listed as songwriter, so he deserves to get paid. Schon is a great guitarist, one of the best, HOWEVER he is dumb at business and even dumber when it comes to love. Dont flatter him too much as being a true business man, it might go to his head(s).

Oh yes we fucking can!!! The "producer" deviated from the rockers to ballads formula and the fans wholeheartedly rejected it, relatively speaking.

Hah oooookay... making a bunch of money isn't really a Band-Aid for getting unceremoniously let go and (in Augeri's case) shouldered with all the blame for TG.

That they weren't wronged is just your opinion, and mine is that they were.

 lol, i'll elaborate on my thoughts even though it is terribly difficult for me this time of day.

needed perry- as in could not see a future without him. til this day journey is rarely, if ever, mentioned without the inclusion of perry. he made a decision to fire and has since admitted to it being wrong. schon and cain went along with it and i can't say i've ever heard of them standing up for a "brother."

I'm not saying perry is a saint. i hated journey when RoR came out, pissed about the firing of smitty and ross. i also don't think schon and cain are saints and their characters are stained in my eyes due to recent events. talk about a lack of loyalty to band mates.... geez! and if you want to say "hey, it's a business", well then perry made a business decision regarding RoR and schon and cain followed.

the bottom line is the music. do you like journey music? if you do, does that include all eras?

My comment was in reference to Dan's claim
of how Perry is notorious for firing band members,
making it sound like Neal is a saint.

Augeri and Soto were afforded tremendous opportunities. Augeri was hired to try and bring the band back to prominence. When that failed they hung onto him until he could no longer sing...after that actually. They had to finally part ways. Jeff was asked to finish a tour and did so. The band then sought a different direction. Neither man was wronged in any way. They both made a ton of loot that they otherwise wouldn't have. Both should be extremely appreciative of the opportunity they were afforded. Both did a fine job.

Smith and Valory on the other hand were part of the lineup that sold millions and millions of records, had Top 40 hits, and actually recorded the original music. I would think that the loyalty factor would supercede hiring Fat Albert to play bass and a guy that resembled a pedophile to play the skins. The ironic thing is that neither was better than the person they replaced as far as Journey music goes.
Augeri didnt fail, thats why im here any many others including you. He did his best, and I forked over $$ to 18 concerts with him.He got the train going after Steve P wouldnt or couldnt do it. Since the band made millions of dollars touring {with is your bullshit} they could have took some breaks, let the singer heal to make more millions .Apparently they dont make millions,so they toured with a sick lead singer that begged for a break. and they lost millions last year when they dumped Jeff with no lead singer in tow, how fucked up is that?? I liked to see the "loot' they so called made.Thats a croak of shit, id tip both Steve and jeff for all the games that were played on them
