I agree with both of you. However, what we want and what Wal Mart demanded are two entirely different things.

Neal and Jon are both very interested in Andrew's opinion as well as the opinion of the board as a whole. I'm quite certain they're very pleased by Andrew's review and the mainly positive initial feedback from the fans' reviews. I would fully expect for Andrew to hear from Neal. Probably a short e-mail.

After reading the review I am hoping the mailman brings me a gift in the mail 2day! I was tentative before seeing Ellen and the CBS piece but after that and the in depth review...I am now excited... :D and given the CD's that I have bought lately this does not happen often...

Your review is the best yet....so insightful, so intuitive. You seem to have listened to every song, every word, and every musical inflection on this fantastic CD! THIS is what people should read. A review from someone who actually listened. Hopefully, with reviews like this one, word of mouth will spread and more people will be able to enjoy this wonderful new offering from Journey. Thanks for sharing, JBabe

I'll get into it more later...but I WILL say that FITH and Like a Sunshower suck. FITH should NOT have been redone. There's no soul to it anymore. AP's accent was worked on (studio magic like I predicted) but it still shines through on almost all the songs. I wouldn't rank this one close to Frontiers. It could compare to Arrival...but it wouldn't win. IMO.

Like I said...more later.

I know. I was expecting him to tell us whether Neal is wearing boxers or briefs and what print he has on them. Also, whether or not they smell like poon or not. Maybe some info or footage of Neal's recent colonoscopy

This one would blow Arrival out of the water if he sang it in Tagalog.

If you listened to alot of the albums that have outsold Arrival, you'd lose faith in the human race VERY quickly.

I tend to agree. Everyone got all wet about the Sunshower samples and that made it a big letdown, for me too.

Half this sounds like Bad English and half sounds like hell - I dunno, in parts Neal (riffing, not soloing) sounds like Eddie Van Halen circa Balance/3 (which isnt good).

The backing vocals sound like shit from Heart in the mid 80's.

I'm not sold at all. I feel really really bad for Steve Augeri right now. This is on first listen, but...i just dunno.

FITH really pissed me off.

FITH and Sunshower are probably definite skips for me every time... although I haven't heard Sunshower enough to say for sure. Great call on Turn Down the World Tonight Andrew - was just listening on my way home from work and this song has really stuck with me from the get-go. It is a far stronger ballad than After All These Years - still emotive without the over-the-top cheesy wedding song lyrics, huge harmony, a better chorus hook, and Neal just makes that thing cry on the leads. I'm a little bit puzzled why this didn't get the nod for the first single over AATY.

I'm also with you on Change for the Better - what a great song. I'm a Bad English fan and an Arrival fan, but this thing shits all over Bad English and it's cohesively a step above Arrival (although Higher Place, Signs of Life, and To Be Alive Again could all hang with the best on this album...) Overall, a great effort in my eyes and I haven't even heard the thing CD quality yet. I really hope the production is as good as you say it is Andrew - since the crappy quality torrent I've got already sounds better than Generations, I'm sure it will be. Can't wait to head to WalMart right after work tomorrow.

I feel totally different. I think Faith In The Heartland is much improved and arguably the best track on Revelation. Can't find a 'skip' track on that record.

See, I just think it lacks the urgency. I also miss the extended intro. I did enjoy Augeri's singing on the original a lot too. One thing Andrew's spot on about is Arnel is at his absolute best when he's singing his own material and his own personality gets to shine through.

I'm with you on this. It has a very different feel to it whilst remaining respectful to the original.

I listened to Revelation a couple of times and didn't come across any songs that hooked me and demanded to be listened to again. Hopefully the CD will have more of an impact. :?

So is that a 99 or do you round up to 100? :)

And nicely done Mac. As always, you have a well balanced review. In addition, you were able to set a side the obvious issues with JSS's departure and let the music speak for itself. Once again, you've demonstrated your ability to be a true professional. Well done mate.

Aaron wrote:Thanks for the review man. I haven't read it in detail yet but I do have one question. Why not review the new material separately from the rehash crap? I don't think most folks give a crap about the re-make of the old material. What do you think?

I thought I pretty much did that :)
Just stop reading after the instrumental track is featured!

But in all honesty - that's tempting, but that's not all this release is. It is most definitely 2 discs of material recorded earlier this year and I can't only review parts of the package.

Even in Europe it is a 2CD set...so there ya go!
