Jeremey & Journey Demo Info

Postby Jeremey » Wed Jun 11, 2008 12:48 pm

Here's a cut and paste from the Myspace Blog accompanying the streaming tunes, if anyone's interested...

http://www.myspace.com/journeymusiclive

Well, I've had the two demos from what eventually became the Revelation writing sessions in my possession since Jon Cain popped them out of his mac and scrawled "J Boy's Demo 6-23" across the CDR in black sharpie...Which is to say, I've had them since 6/23, and really didn't think anything else of them except a nice souvenir from my trip to California. When I found out that both "Where Did I Lose Your Love" and "Never Walk Away" were being used on the final CD, I figured I'd hold on to them, and wanted to release them via streaming or something at some point just as a little collectors item/novelty thing....

What I didn't want is to release them under a lot of scrutiny about the quality of the recordings, the singing, the production versus Kevin Shirley's production, et cetera ad infinitum. Having also in my possession the instrumental tracks, I could have very well rerecorded a polished vocal take as well and had a couple of pretty solid tracks here.

However, in keeping with the spirit of the whole "collector's item" idea, I want to offer them here as streaming files for people not to listen to them with my voice and make a comparison or anything, but to hear the songs recorded with the spontaneity of having just been born. Recorded only hours after the first few run throughs with the the band, these tracks are a couple of snapshots of that rare glimpse that we as fans would like to peek into every now and then.

So enjoy the tracks for what they are, warts and all....Frontiers has been performing "Never Walk Away" for the past week now, so to hear a polished and well worn version, you'll have to come to a Frontiers show! And as far as Where Did I Lose Your Love...Well, it turned into one of the strongest tracks from the CD, and the band and Mr Shirley did a fantastic job with the arrangements, production, and performances.

See some of you tomorrow in Myrtle Beach!

Cool stuff. Looking forward to the show in Bloomington. Cool that you're going to Grand Rapids. Just saw Van Halen there...last show of their tour. Tito and I should be able to make this show. That town is a great time.

You are welcome! Great to see you and Norm last weekend, and hope you can make it next time we're down in C-town. What a great venue! We are looking to be back around October, I think. I'll keep you posted!

Thanks for the nuggets there, Jeremey. The version of WDILYY sounds much closer to the final version than does NWA.

Yeah, Neal changed around the arrangement on his guitar solo quite a bit. I like what he did with it, but I also like his original take as well.

Jeremey, that was a good listen. I enjoy listening to these if for no other reason than to hear the version of the song near its genesis and see where it ended up. It's also interesting to see how a song evolves. Worth the listen for posterity's sake. So many thanks.

Jeremey,

I've been waiting a long time to hear the demos. They sound great, thanks for sharing them. It's always great to what one of the original writers intended for the song to sound like.

Thanks again bro, they were great.

thanks Jeremey!

interesting.....the chord progression in the chorus on NWA on that demo makes it sound much less like BGTY or even BIM....
so I guess they purposedly shaped it in that direction on the final version....

Hey Jeremey!

Glad to see these things finally seeing the light of day...and to hear it prefaced with that Schon comment..(too much like perry....??? And what they have now isn't??) is just great!

But being a person who likes to see credit given where credit is due, why is your name not tagged behind "Where did I lose your love" in the Revelation liner notes? I think it'd be only appropriate for your name to be right there with "Schon/Cain" as it is on "Never Walk Away"

And on a side note - yeah - you funkin' nailed em.....hard...on these. Having heard these demos, I almost prefer them.

I was thinking that...but was having difficulty finding the words to type it out...
