I BELIEVE JON MEANT WELL BUT...

“So far, so good”, Cain said.
"He's diligent," Cain said, offering his sage advice to Pineda: "Be quiet after the shows. Get your sleep and don't go too crazy with the meet-and-greets. Eat the right stuff. Don't get too caught up with all the after-show stuff.”
******************************************************************************************************
Firstly, I know that Jon meant well; and I have nothing against him or any other Journey member. I love their new CD and the concert that I attended! Secondly, this may be important for some—but may not be a big deal for most of the Journey fans. This is simply a friendly personal comment. While that “sage advice to Pineda” seems to make practical sense—it seems counter-intuitive—if not counter-productive from the PR point of view. I believe that for most famous artists and sports personalities, experiencing fan excitement and appreciation —up close—could be very satisfying and refreshing. If Arnel could survive 2 to 3 hours of almost non-stop singing in a concert—perhaps a few minutes of “meet-and-greets” would not hurt his sleep regimen---much less his voice. And that may be true for the other members, too. It may even boost their career a bit—as some fans who buy their records; and attend their concerts---occasionally expect to be shown a little “personal” appreciation when they have the chance. I believe that is not too much to ask---unless of course they are in places where security risk is a concern.

What do you think?

I've heard consistently that singers should talk as little as possible following a show if they want to treat their voice properly.

I see the biggest problem is not the rest of body and voice, but the human contact and the increased chances of picking up a virus....

I'd rather have a healthy singer able to give his best performance than a fan friendly guy who gets sick all the time and gives a sub par show.

Yeah, it's nice to see they give a shit about taking care of one of their singer's voices NOW. How perceptive of them.

AP doesn't need the after-show life, and Journey doesn't need him there either.
AP has nothing to prove, except that he can make it through to the end of the tour.
His voice strength & stage charisma is all that we should see.
Hit the sound check. Get a massage. And disappear after the show.
His health is all he's got...especially at 40-something.

Your points are well-taken… However, in fairness to AP, I think he is the only one who can publicly announce that “he doesn't need the after-show life…,” especially that he has been away from his family for months. Anything overdone is bad. If after-show activity is done mildly and with adequate precautions {i.e., no kissing and hugging (by cordoning off)—just a few handshakes (which can be washed-off later) and a controlled/organized autographing session}—a mutually-beneficial after-show life could be made possible. I believe both "not doing it" and "overdoing it" are bad extremes.

And also, last time I checked with my Asian and Filipino friends...a little "after-show life" is pretty important to them.

Maybe they actually learned something from what happened to SA?

It's a stretch, I know.

And it seems to me Arnel has been singing for decades - who the heck is Cain to tell him how to take care of himself?

Sorry, I'm a little cynical right now. :?

When I joined the tour/guys in July '06, I arrived with a large bag of sage, everyone thought it was pot. They all inquired what that was about & I taught them the benefits of sage tea, straight into a tea strainer in hot water with organic raw honey. Deen & I lived on the stuff before every show, it's a singer's secret weapon for touring, got my education from Glenn Hughes & he aint no slouch on the vocal cords!!

Nice to see they're carrying on the tradition, in the end it will only be good for Arnel!

I think the context of the word sage was to mean "extremely wise person" in this instance...or were you just being facetious?

Yep. Everyone at the doctor's office at which I worked knew I would only talk when absolutely necessary for the 24 hours following a gig. Fortunately, my job did not mandate a lot of personal or professional conversation.

Cool tip, and I'll have to try that! My current secret weapon is the Michael Sweet Special -- plain yogurt with crushed up banana and just enough honey to taste -- like an oil change for the throat! Also, some greasy chicken fingers work wonders too... LOL!

Barb you're spot on. Guys that sing in the tenor range are pretty much right on the edge most of the time with their singing whether it be Arnel, Perry, JSS or Augeri. One slight cold and everything goes belly up with no range. I agree, be reclusive but kick ass on stage.
