I believe that most (if not, every) Journey fan would love this album if Perry was singing on it.

Ditto for Arrival also.

Yep. And what kicks me square in the ass is, Perry won't sing for Journey, but there are so many people pissed off at them for continuing without him. You can't win no matter what you do.

Oh I'm sure that figured into their thinking, what a dumb ass statement. Do you think they were saying, hey!!! how can we get a Gold album? Oh Oh, I know......... we've never had a Gold Album before so lets Re-Record the old Platinum songs to get one.

They know how the numbers work...if you think that didn't at least cross thier minds, you're in denial. They want the stats to look good...they want to be able to print things like "Gold comeback album"...it's obviously not the only reason, but they knew what they were doing.

And another ass-kicker is that none of the Revelation material, all Schon/Cain or Schon or Cain brianchildren could have been concieved with perry in the band.

Also would never have great melodic, urgent, tension-filled songs like Remember Me, Higher Place, WGW, WWMA, The Time, FITH, TPIYH or OOHW.

Anyone remember that "Having Such A Good Time" song they had with Augeri? It was played in concert but never made an album. It was pretty good. I think I have the name right...at least part of it.

Yep, Revelation, or whatever he would have named it, would have been another sappy ballad fest. Oh the loons would be a swooning.

The working title was Have A Good Time (I THINK) and it was played live only during the Vacation's Over era.

Was disapointed it did not make Arrival as it was a good live song with a Journey hook (I have it on tape).

Work it up for the next album, I says.

Splash it up here, MFer.

Let the posters judge and maybe they will pull off the attic shelf in Wildhorse Studios.

I like Augeri's delivery on the "I think I seen you BeFFFOOORRROOOOWWWOOOO-OOORRR!!!" and "Let's go up to the coast, shhhyeaaahheeeaaa!!" parts.

Little Hammond out of Cain, too.

Augeri's voice was strong on this song. Sounds great. He was very solid up until about 2001.

That said; on with the objectivity.

Like many who post here, I visited Youtube many times to get a glimpse of Arnel Pineda, as the initial rumours began back in late 2007.

I viewd the concert in Chile live.

And yes, I bought "Revelation" at my local Wal-Mart last weekend.

I popped in the new material disc on the way home to give it a listen, and although I wanted to be blown away, I was not.
I thought the new music was just "ok".

Secondly, I gave a listen to the rerecorded stuff---again, "ok"...still not sure why they felt they should do the rerecords in the first place.

Still hoping to be pleasantly surprised, I made it home and put on the DVD.
Understand, I am a Journey fan for 30+ years and I truly wanted a reason to remain in the fold, but I honestly was not
wowed by the ability of Arnel Pineda.

Although he has the ability to mimick Perry's sound...in very small bits and peices...he does not carry the "money notes" very well and already appears to be struggling to perform the back catalog.

I honestly do not anticipate a second CD with him in the line-up, nor do I envision him lasting more than 3 years on tour.

Sorry boys, after all the hype "I'm not feelin' it".

They're pushing late 50's into the 60's (except for deen). Arnel is 40+. Like it or night, it's better than having some young 20 year old sing the "money notes", that would look rediculous. They want to make some money, play music, they're doing both. So what....

Wrong....That era of Journey died...Journey continues in this era....

there is no need to compare the two (or three if you count the Pre Perry days) as the Perry era rules all.

the new era is what it is. It's Journey minus Perry.

some folks seem to think the new era Journey is pretty damn good.

Actually I wasn't a big fan of Arnel at first, mostly because of my disdain for how JSS and SA got thrown under the bus so to speak. But give the man credit where credit is due. His voice is growing on me and I enjoy listening to his work. I really enjoy Revelation though I could've done without Sunshower. The guy's the real deal. The question will be can he take care of his voice.

My take on the whole post perry thing is along these lines:

If Perry releases, I get that CD
Tall Stories 2 comes out... all over that (now if only Tall Stories 1 is somewhere on CD. All I have is an aging cassette)
JSS... been jumping on the back catalog on ITunes. Never would've known about the guy had it not been for his time in Journey

So I get Journey plus all the other music above...not a bad deal *shrugs* Maybe I'm guilty for looking at the bright side of things too much

Jeff is great in his own right but I really really don't see how you could like him with Journey more than Arnel. Even Jeff himself acknowledges Arnel is a better fit, whatever bitterness he harbors about the whole thing.

Augeri was probably better than Arnel at performing a lot of the hits, but Arnel is great in his own right and he really shines on his own material (not that Augeri didn't). Arnel's as good as we're gonna get, and for me, he's damn good.

Let's face it, Journey has some damned good talent or we wouldn't all be here! Tactics and business practices I have issues with but their talent has never been in question and that is with no SP, SP, SA, JSS and AP! Neal is unbelievably fun to watch. The only other guitarist that makes me drop my jaw when I see him play in person is Howie Simon of the JSSB.

Journey has had many eras, many changes and I'm amazed at the latest success - I really am. Not because I thought it would be bad, but because I'm not used to seeing all this promotion!

Sure it is! Past can't be changed, and now I get new music from SA, just spent last weekend at two JSS concerts and I'll be checking out Revelation in a few days.

Journey is responsible for me even knowing SA existed and for showing me JSS can blow an audience out of the water (and trust me, I was working extra shifts to buy all his back catalog!).

So, yeah, they might not be perfect human beings but I sure have gotten a lot of fun times for my money! :)

I never said I liked Jeff better than Arnel as a Journey vocalist per sey. I was only expressing an annoyance to how he was separated from the band. I will grant that Arnel's voice is more than a fit for the Steve Perry sound they were going for and he certainly sounds great on the new material. And I will agree that I enjoy Arnel's work. I'm really digging Revelations. So I don't think we're in disagreement.

JSS has got a range on him, no doubt about that. I think he's better suited to songs where he can power through the vocals (he's got some power behind those pipes). I enjoyed the hell out of his recent Talisman release as well as what he did all the way back on Rising Force. He didn't sound quite right on some of Journey's back catalog, but then he owned Chain Reaction

I think the point that I was trying to make was like meh...yeah, they (Augeri and JSS) aren't in Journey now, but I've been introduced to JSS's catalog as a result of his time in Journey. So bonus there. Augeri, well I knew about his Tall Stories 1 work, am looking forward to seeing TS2. Steve Perry's supposedly working on a project, and if that is ever brought to bear, I got that to look forward to.
