They handled it the way they did because of LAWSUITS! Even if the suit was not filed at the time, they probably knew there was a chance of a lawsuit (a correct assumption in hindsight) so they stay quiet. You don't talk or go into detail with someone who is going to sue you. That applies to Journey or any business or any part of life. That's why they did it the way they did it. You guys blew your stack for no reason.

He wasn't named "Singer For Life" he was named the lead singer.
It's basically at-will, can be fired.

And, this particular storm had just about settled, when Neal stirred it all up again.

Who is the "one" Perry soundalike that you're referring to, Jeff??? I'm still waiting to hear someone who sounds like Perry. I heard many claim Augeri sounded like Perry, which I thought was ABSURD! Augeri was NOWHERE close to Perry, on ANY level and sounded absolutely NOTHING like the guy!

Also, I did NOT go to South Bend for Soto. I went to see Scrap Metal. Actually in all honesty, as the show was coming around, I didn't even want to go but I didn't want Saint John to have to eat another ticket as a few people already bailed out on him. Plus, you can ask of couple of others I was "blasting" Soto back then. Everytime someone said something about Soto I rolled my eyes. Did I say anything to you or others about what I thought of Soto specifically the dismisal - no, but that wasn't the place. It was supposed to be a good time.
As far as a no-life loser, I've been here only two months, you've been here two years. I only post or 99% of time during work hours to pass time. Evenings and weekends are rare. Also, I follow people that have accomplished something. Look who you follow. Who's the loser?

OK, I'm just getting caught up here but I want to make sure I understand this....you are saying that you are NOT a loser because 1-you've only been here two months and 2-You only post during the work day. Yet you argue that B is a loser becuase he's been here for 2 year??? Hmmmm-well I just checked and you have an average of just under 12 posts per day and B has an average of just under posts per day. Sounds like B must be far busier at work than you are.

Well it's JSS' prerogative to sue, if there's validity or frivolity to it is up to the courts.
But give me a break, only Supreme Court Judges have lifetime job security, job announcement or not.
Saint John wrote:Deb wrote: My issue is.....why do they feel the need to come in and try to minimize Jeff's talents every time something positive is posted about him? What are they getting out of doing that?
What do you (some people here in general...not specifically you, Deb) get out of making him into a superstar and using him in the same breath as Perry, Gramm, Mercury and others when he clearly hasn't earned the right to be in that company? I think we're much closer to the truth than those people and sometimes the truth hurts...but it's still the truth. There was never a problem here until people felt the need to make ridiculous comparisons that were actually unfair to Soto himself. If you played "word association" with music insiders and experts and said Perry, Gramm and Mercury I would bet my entire net worth that "Soto" would not be the next name mentioned...or the 50th for that matter.

Selling out the first 9 shows, and I'm certain that more will follow, seems to indicate that they hired the right guy. A Double Platinum album is going to be pretty fucking cool as well.
I can't believe nobody has picked up on this sentence!
When JSS was fired, the word that he had been fired was posted up on the net by various musicians who had been told - but it was before JSS knew. Links to their blogs etc were posted up for us to see.
The band photo featuring JSS was altered as we looked at the Journey site. His image was erased bit by bit. We saw it happen.
We all read this info and we all saw the photo. That wasn't gossip from board members pretending to be 'in the know' it was from people in the biz who knew and worked with JSS, Journey and their Management posting up what had happened while JSS was in Europe.
We knew before JSS did. I call that sneaky.
If you think that is handling things wonderfully then...............I give up.
It does not matter if JSS sells a million units week. Or none.
How many units did Arnel sell before he got the job?
It is about courtesy, and respect for another person's feelings. None were given.
And the main culprit for mentioning JSS's name in the same sentence as Mercury, Perry etc is you!
But why that is even a problem, again.............I give up.

I just meant guys that launched & were compared to Perry like Hugo, David Glen Eisley (Giuffria), even Jimi Jamison got it back then. I didn't mean any one intentionally tried to be Perry but the ones that had the clean tenor would automatically be compared to him as 'Perry-esque'.

SS was not supposed to Journey ll, sadly no ones heard my Perry 'impersonations' which I used to blow people away with decades ago in my 20's (most of it came from his & my love for Sam Cooke actually). I put 'that' voice on the shelf as not to be another 'one' of those singers that popped up everywhere once Journey blew up, there were so many Perry soundalikes (well, not really, there was only really ever one!) so as to concentrate on finding my own voice. It was fun singing those songs 'in' the band but there was no way I would try to do the soundalike thing with Journey, I respected the songs & the melodies by hitting the following the print Perry left on them.
Neal told me from day one he doesn't want the SS sound to compare to Journey, he wanted something more rock, more tough & beefier....which we did.

I just took it as a statement of fact
there is only one Steve Perry & the rest are by definition sound alikes
Wouldn't it be something if someday JSS & Steve Perry collaborated...not to tour but for a song or even a CD?
Bet that would knock a chip off Neal's shoulder.
