I'm just googling it now, thanks. Found a page about the show. :)

Yes the British Navy has a ship called the HMS Beaver- I recall a embarrassing story -When I was with a US Navy detachment based on a Royal Navy base a number of years ago. My job was to brief commanders (US and Royal Navy) on the positons of the Russian fleet and the movents of US/ UK ships . One morning I started giving my brief... "Well the new commander of the Russian Black sea fleat has moved to the Med, and we have the USS EIsenhower, HMS Ark ROyal out there, They are also supported by the USS San Jacinto. And here comes the Beaver steaming on in there to support the troops!" Half the brit commanders smirked and the other half were wondering why this kid had the balls to make smutty jokes in a briefing. go figure

It would probably have been worse if you had known beforehand what you were saying. Because you maybe would have laughed. I know you probably felt uncomfortable not knowing what the smirkers were smirking at, but I think it was probably better that way.

An older guy might still use those words, but they kind of went out of use along with 'chicks.'
Although in Wales I think they still refer to a woman as a 'piece' or a 'fancy piece.'
