No, it doesn't. Condoning discrimination and hypocrisy, allowing church leaders to break the law and face little or no repurcussions and teaching inequality is certainly not positive.

Sure it does...MOST churches boot their pastors who break the law but you never hear about it in the press. The only time you hear about them are when the pastors actually break the law and when they are not punished by their churches.

Not speaking for all cases, but in many, they don't boot them. They send them off to a smaller parish in another city, usually a smaller city a couple hundred miles away. That's what they did to the pee-pee toucher they found in the parish I grew up in. They helped him hide. I've heard this isn't exactly uncommon, either, that's what I mean by condoning it.

That is not in all faiths. You are lumping all faiths together and saying all are the same. No, sin is not condoned, nor hid away in all religions. I am sorry your church you grew up in did such a sorry thing. But I ask you did Jesus say hide child molesters, and condone sinful behavior? True religion as it is written in the bible, would produce good parents, spouses, employees, employers, and citizens. People that are living by these principles would never steal, cheat or lie. Now are we also dealing with human error? Yes! But it isn't the teachings of the Bible that are flawed, just people who choose to ignore what it teaches and let sin dictate their lives. By choosing to do evil things in the name of God, there is a punishment that awaits these people.

I agree that some Catholics are truly Christians. That's not my beef. My beef is with Catholic doctrine.

That sounds like a Catholic church. I'm not Catholic and I have huge problems with Catholicism to begin with, so I'm not going to argue that with you.

I'm not going to fault religion for the priests or ministers diddling little boys and girls, because I'm not sure that's remotely fair. On another note, what difference does it make whether it's a Catholic (for the record, I'm not Catholic, nor was I raised Catholic) church or not? The last time I checked, Catholics are practitioners of Christianity!

John from Boston

The Roman Catechism contradicts the Bible and Jesus' own words. Catholocism is designed to chain people to the church. From birth (infant baptism) which isn't in the Bible thru the "seven sacraments"(also not in the Bible) thru death (last rites)
Jesus died to rid us of our chains. Here's a link that does a pretty good job in breaking it down.

Catholics are practitioners of Christianity

...and the interpretation of Christianity changed throughout history depending on what politic benefits there were to gain and always adapted to the moral values of time and place.

Jesus died to rid us of our chains

History of modern humans goes back about 200000 years and suddenly 2000 years ago we needed to get rid of chains?

One thing I am having a major problem with this thread is, the original question was do you believe. I don't attack you for your lack of faith, why do you need to attack my faith? You can show case after case of Hypocrites using God for ill use, but they will never be Christians! I am not going to be upset if you never beleive. This is your right. But I ask you show me the same courtesy. It is just as much my right to believe. You either do or you don't. End of story! Best wishes to you!

That seems like an oxymoron to me. Jesus is the traditonally accepted American version of a god. If you would have said, "I don't base my beliefs on traditions - I worship Bozo The Clown" that would have definitely been a non-traditional approach to religion. But the same way Arabs follow the traditions of Allah and the Qu'ran, Americans follow the traditions of the Bible. People do it because their parents did it, and their parents' parents did it. It's all we know. It's like, okay I need religion. Christianity is at the top of the religion charts in America, so I'll choose that one. In the Middle East, Islam is at the top of the charts, so they choose it. It's all based on tradition and peer pressure.

Can you please perform a miracle and restore Steve Perry's vocal chords back to when he was 23? He'll probably also need an attitude adjustment. That way he will be ready to rock when Arnel's voice gives out.

Can also be a result of believing and faith, which was what this thread originally asked," What do you believe". Not O.K. now prepare to be insulted, put down, and treated like an idiot if you do believe in God. Not that you have, but some cannot tollerate anyone believing in a God.

If you would have said "The New Jesus" I would have believed you, why not?
For a couple of centuries stories about you will be told mouth to mouth, as you can imagine these will be very accurate.
Then your stories will be written down, some passages added, some erased throughout history depending what's to gain.
And in less than 2000 years you will be the most popular guy on the planet.
And the easy part is ...you don't need prove for anything you have done 'cause your followers will call it faith, not science.

My thoughts on it.....Having peace, love, hope, and faith in the human spirit. Living your life to be kind, gentle, respectful of others, help the less fortunate, even helping the ones that ridicule you or insult you...I dont know doesnt sound like a bad way to be if you ask me. Wouldnt mind hearing how that might make my life better.

For those that dont want to hear it, dont believe in God, and theres no heaven or hell..........at the end of your last day....I hope your right!
For me Im gonna take my chances and listen a little bit......see ya Sunday!

This is precisely one of the major problems I have with ALL organized religion. It is almost always reduced to this "My God is better than your God", or "Your denomination isn't as 'Christian' as my denomination is", BS! As a complete non believer, on the outside looking in, it doesn't seem very "Christian" like to be so judgemental. I can honestly say that some of the more devoutly religious people I have encountered in my life have also been some of the more judgemental people, which has never made much sense to me. Some people can be religious and be very admirable for the causes they believe in, while others are just over the top, and obnoxious about it. I guess it takes all kinds...Even in religion!
