Some people can't appreciate this.

I hope the day never comes when they will need to appreciate it.

They both held their own and were strong. I'm happy, because I was worried about Obama, only because in debates with Hillary she was clearly stronger, but it became more even as they went along with their five million debates. So I'm happy. McCain did great, except he starting getting that pinched face look he gets with a clenched jaw. I can't wait for Palin and Biden. It will be priceless.

I guess everybody feels we're better off since Bush has a 28 percent approval rating. I must be missing something. Even lower on economy.

For what it's worth, I don't think it was the "demeanor" that caused any harm. I do think if we show weakness, we are all screwed. Not just me...but you and you and you...

Will diplomacy be needed? Heck yes, but not with terrorists and dictators that seek only to destroy our nation.

All I was saying was that I just had a sense that we'd be safer after seeing him behind the podium. Nothing more, nothing less. If you don't feel that way, so be it. We're all entitled to our own feelings and thoughts.

I'd just rather have McCain protecting me than Obama and the Hollywood crowd. They scare me to death. I wish they wouldn't have ever expanded their causes from saving poor little animals. How'd they every get from trying to save minks to discussing international relations?? How did Sean Penn go from stoner (not there's anything wrong with that) to ambassador of the world?

overall i dont think the debates is gonna convince people who are already decided who to vote for..
but it will probably convinced undecided.. which with the race so close might ultimately decide who wins.

and...if anyone thinks McCain is just another Bush has been asleep (or on the doob) the past 8 years. They were constantly at odds. Their relations were nasty, cool at best.

Hoagiepete, I'm with you on some things. I wish the Hollywood people would shut up. On principle alone, I might vote against their person. I like McCain and always have. I wanted Hillary to get the nomination. If McCain had not picked Palin and had picked Romney, I might be voting differently. I'm not risking McCain kicking off and Palin running the country. That thought brings me to my knees with fear. And if you think Palin did good on Katie Couric, then we just have to respectfully agree to disagree on that one. Peace. 8)

Obama clearly was the better man tonight. There was SOMETHING that looked on the face of McCain that bothered him immensely when Obama spoke.

McCain seemed very uncomfortable up there at times where Obama showed instances of serious confidence. Some are already comparing it to the Kennedy and Nixon debate where one stood their ground and one seemed to sweat. Both candidates stood their ground through the first half and most of the questions benefited McCain's stance. Of course the breakout was about the war in Iraq and how we need to expand troops in Afghanistan. McCain was seriously owned in this segment as Obama was stating figures and facts left and right on how we dropped the ball and how our intentions went completely down the shitter and basically out of grasp during the time of the shit pile that is the Bush Administration.

McCain seemed to shy away from questions at times and really didn't get down "to the point" and seemed not to answer it's question in entirety.... or maybe it is the way he spoke because I seriously couldn't keep my eyes open every time he was up to answer. Is this guy retarded? You mean to tell me we go from one president who didn't know the difference between an adjective and noun..and now the person that's supposed to follow him talks like he has a severe case of gingivitis with a 3 second attention span? Give me a break. His "experience" stories are getting old and it shows from the z's of the crowd behind the cameras.

Can't wait for the Biden/Palin debate. Talk about a slaughter? This should be TOO easy for Democrats. Palin does NOT deserve to lead the Pledge of Allegiance ...let alone VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! Look for an easy one for the DEMS in the next debate.

Wow, youngJourney, I read it differently. Although, I do agree with you on the faces of McCain. I thought Obama's demeanor was better. But someone else could have a different take on that and not be wrong. Just a different viewpoint. But I expected Obama to dominate on economy and they both held their own. I expected McCain to dominate on foreign policy and Obama to be not quite as good. But Obama held his own. So I think they both did really good. If you're for Obama, you will be happy. If you're for McCain, you will be happy.

Yes Lula.
Bear in mind that thinking Conservatives like Mike Murphy and Peggy Noonan we're overheard saying that the choice of Palin spelt the death knell for the McCain campaign early on. I am just shocked sooo many of the rank and file GOPers (some on this very board) fell for what is an obvious attempt at red meat base pandering and little else. It'd be like Obama choosing Cindy Sheehan for his VP.

McCain can be his own man (at times), but the choice of Palin has all the fingerprints of Karl Rove.

I didn't know you posted it, Lula. I saw it earlier today. Thanks. Finally, some honesty about Palin from their own party. I could be wrong (it won't be the first time), but it will be McCain's downfall for this election. I can't imagine her pulling off this debate after the interviews I saw. Maybe Katie Couric should replace Palin, since she has a better grasp of the issues.

It was a draw. Each side will say their candidate won. It was that close.
