I agree, and that's NOT what I was doing in the other thread...

I could list 1 or 2 people right off the bat who were probably the people who posted those comments.

But hey...give them press and they eat it up. So I won't.

I personally tell everyone that after all the crap Journey pulled in the past few years (tapegate, Soto, etc), I had just about had it with the band. However, the one reason I am still on board with them, along with the great material on Revelation, is ARNEL PINEDA. He has proven to an exceptional person and talent: someone who you wholeheartedly want to root for.

Now, I proudly continue to play Journey on my radio show, and especially, sing the praises of the current line-up and Arnel.

Bravo Arnel. Rock On!

That's great that you playing them. New stuff hopefully. I was listening to KLOS on the way to the show and didn't catch any Journey. You'd think they'd be breakin' some of the new stuff but maybe Uncle Joe's loyality to SP is too strong? Then again I didn't stay on the station the whole time so maybe I missed a cut or too.

AP's doing great and staying humble. Very hard to do considering the crap he's had said about him. This is one case of the good guy winning. Rock on Arnel! :D

I don't listen to such and such band because I like the members as people. I listen for the music, and the music alone. I didn't stop listening to the Dixie Chicks because they had that issue with Bush. And the people that DID, have psychological problems.

I couldn't care less about Arnel as a person. And that's NOT to say I don't care about him, or mean him ill-will. I just don't base my musical tastes on personal things.

Feel-good story aside....if the music wasn't up to par, I wouldn't listen.

You didn't miss shit. The only time I have heard new cuts was NWA being used as bumper music for Mark and Brian. Their tail gate album for the Concert on Sunday was Departure. They are Perry loons to the nth degree at KLOS.

Oh Yes! Certainly new stuff. I have played After All These Years two times (I actually played it last spring from a leaked version to hype it up prior to the summer break (the song had been released to radio stations, I just did not have a copy). I also have on our automated system Wildest Dreams. I also intend on playing more new stuff as time moves on.

I do like to add in some of the hits, and even some classic album cuts as well.

You know, mix things up: a classic this week, a new one the next, then maybe an album cut. Makes things interesting!

Arnel did you get that present I sent you this week? How about the other packages last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Don't worry nothing is ticking inside of them. I'm mailing myself to the Philippines so I can be with you and accept your man love.

:D

Yeah it takes someone real brave to use someone else's name like that  . Rip wouldn't have posted that.

Thanks, Melissa, and you are correct -- I didn't post that, nor any of the others. These types of attacks seem to be by a very few, possibly even one person who uses several screen names (some fraudulently as in this case), lurks and knows these boards and their history VERY well (the comment from "Knellsky" saying that he'd received my gifts was copied/pasted from an old Shout Box chat transcript), and who has no taste or boundaries whatsoever -- just an all-around Internet psycho on the worst level.

Still, to see those comments was embarrassing... For the record, other than making sure a package was delivered safely, I don't personally prefer to follow up on gifts given to another person that I don't know very well -- whether they enjoyed them, disliked them, or gave them away to another person is really none of my business. Otherwise I feel it puts someone on the spot. If they want to comment on them, they will.

I tried to contact EW.com about this situation and was not surprised to find that they have no easily discovered phone number -- not even when I called Customer Service. Also discovered that you must agree to their Terms & Conditions in order to contact them using the online e-mail form, but that includes them adding you to their marketing (SPAM) list. No choice about it. The customer service rep told me I did not have to check that box, yet I found that to be untrue. Out of curiosity I'm going to check into the legality of this practice, but doubt it will turn up much.

Anyway... situations like this present a problem because I feel the best way to deal with psychos like this is just to flat out ignore them. Don't give them any attention, they tend to go away. Stand toe-to-toe with them and you'll never get rid of them. But when they start using your own name online, it's a different situation.

Ever hear of anyone trademarking or copyrighting their internet names?
Probably the only way to stop this crap. But even then, it'd just get ignored.

I wonder what the online slander laws are like these days...? And are the site hosts liable too?

slander is spoken; libel is written

to prove either, 3 things are required:

statements must be false
person making statements must know they are false
person about whom statements are made must have suffered material harm

The bottom-feeding behavior under discussion wouldn't meet the test.

Pathological liars have a surplus of white matter and a deficit of gray matter in the brain. That means they have more tools to lie coupled with fewer moral restraints than normal people, so they don't feel as guilty for what they have done. I don't think there is a name for this disorder yet but it's still being studied.

Point is, if defamation intent can be proven, then the poster should be criminally liable and it's possible the website owner/host is also liable for allowing such comments to remain published. And even though the latter hasn't really happened yet, at some point a court may hold the owner accountable.

This looks pertinent.

Probably the only way to stop this crap. But even then, it'd just get ignored.

I wonder what the online slander laws are like these days...? And are the site hosts liable too?

later~

slander is spoken; libel is written

to prove either, 3 things are required:

statements must be false
person making statements must know they are false
person about whom statements are made must have suffered material harm

The bottom-feeding behavior under discussion wouldn't meet the test.

Point is, if defamation intent can be proven, then the poster should be criminally liable and it's possible the website owner/host is also liable for allowing such comments to remain published. And even though the latter hasn't really happened yet, at some point a court may hold the owner accountable.

This looks pertinent.

This sounds like something that's happened around here.

Arkansas, you're clearly not a lawyer. For anyone to prove a tort, intent is not the only thing that needs to be proven. Damages must also be proven (extremely hard to do)...in addition to damages, cause-in-fact needs to be proven (far more difficult than even damages to prove).

Either way they have to live with WHAT they are, which isn't saying much.
