This one is getting a LOT of votes!
Good job it's one that I posted a clip of for these Brits who need educating.
Someone has said they think Liam Gallagher is the best male singer of all time.

How the foo do you reason with someone like that?

I give up, I really do.

Well, I've never heard of Oasis, but think the guy has a good voice. Having said that, his name doesn't even belong in the same sentence with Perry. Also, you can't even begin to compare them, because their voices aren't remotely similar.

Exactly - so how can you reason with someone who thinks Liam Gallagher is the best singer of all time.
He is a growler and a snarler. There is no soul or emotion to his singing IMO.
But... what is meat to one person is poison to another.
I did my best.

"What Was" ~ LOOOOVE the "Operatic" quality to his voice.

"Strung Out" ~ Because it's fun.....AND it's utilizing his INSANELY strong High End...

(hey - that got "destroyed" during the "Frontiers" era, right....?
Oh, THAT's right....Frontiers was BEFORE Street Talk...so much for THAT theory....)
 :o

"Once You Love Somebody" ~ Full, lower voice, with beautiful "Escape" era 3-part harmonies in the background. Best of Both Worlds. 8)

For ballads, gotta be Why Can't This Night Go On and Little Girl.
For fast, gotta be Where Were You. The stuff he does in that song is amazing.
For spoken word, gotta be "I was toast".
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

They are both great songs. I'm still waiting for them to bust out Sweet and Simple one of these days. Did they even do this in Perry's day? It's such a great song.

I couldn't pick a 'best' if I tried. I had 2 in mind and as I read through the thread, I kept going, "oh yeah, that one too!" and "omg, of COURSE that one!" By the time I got to this page to post I had 20 songs in my head to name.

Happy To Give (chills, man... fucking chills)
Why Can't This Night... (thud)
Stay Awhile
Homemade Love
Its Just the Rain
Sweet and Simple
La Do Da (he held those notes for like, a year  )
Daydream
Stone In Love

Great song. I'd stray from calling it one of SP's finer moments though. The way he leads into the chorus almost sounds like a cough or a sneeze to me... "and it's UH (cough/sneeze) two hearts, reach for each other..."

But a great song nonetheless. He had several better moments on TBF for me though.

You know, I was a kid/young teen, but I was at a LOT of early Perry concerts in Detroit, Grand Rapids & Flint MI. I have never seen it performed live....anyone?

I was about to call you crazy, because I was playing it and I didn't hear anything like that... but its at the end... I hear what you mean.. that's funny shit. Great song except for one little thing about it that always grated on me.

The TBF shining moments for me are Still She Cries, Its Just the Rain and One More. 8) Hot stuff.

Anything from Raised on Radio for me. Don't like Mother Father at all but the '81 live version with the nut squeezin' notes at the end is amazing!

On a side note - own up who has the over-sized avatar...First couple pages of the thread were fine but for some reason all posts on page 3 are pretty much squished in the right hand corner and I'm feeling a little claustrophobic!
