I haven't posted here in a very long time, and ordinarily this would be the last thread in which I would choose to post. I cannot, however, remain silent after viewing this despicable clip. I was perched on the fence until this evening - now my vote will most assuredly go to Obama/Biden. I truly hope other countries do not judge all Americans by the lunatics in this clip.

Glad I could do my part.
You are a great American.

Yes, indeedy! I have to admit, TNC, that I was already teetering a little toward Obama. You just provided the final push.

TNC, that videotape just frightens me. I have been worried that with the hate that Palin is stirring up in her rallies towards Obama, the chances are going up for an assassination attempt on Obama. After reviewing that videotape, I think my fears are well-founded.

I'm quite overweight as well. Doesn't have anything to do with anything. Perhaps you'd care to share what major problems you have with the rest of the forum so you can be dumped on?

You know what...this may be a hollow, empty gesture...or it may not. It seems to me that the divisiveness people like me help create is part of the reason this social rift exists. I met someone last night whose entire family has been torn to shreds because of political disagreements.

Perhaps if we all turned it down a notch...we could meet somewhere in the middle, even if we don't agree at all.

Agreed.

I'm not sure what's wrong with the video. A couple of angry people voicing their (stupid) opinions. Big deal. Sharpton, Wright, Jackson and the rest of the race hustlers have rallies where far worse is said. Now if they tried to blow up the Pentagon...

I don't know if this has been posted here but it's interesting in regards to the Obama so-called "tax cut" plan...

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122385651698727257.html

One of Barack Obama's most potent campaign claims is that he'll cut taxes for no less than 95% of "working families." He's even promising to cut taxes enough that the government's tax share of GDP will be no more than 18.2% -- which is lower than it is today.

It's a clever pitch, because it lets him pose as a middle-class tax cutter while disguising that he's also proposing one of the largest tax increases ever on the other 5%. But how does he conjure this miracle, especially since more than a third of all Americans already pay no income taxes at all? There are several sleights of hand, but the most creative is to redefine the meaning of "tax cut."

For the Obama Democrats, a tax cut is no longer letting you keep more of what you earn. In their lexicon, a tax cut includes tens of billions of dollars in government handouts that are disguised by the phrase "tax credit." Mr. Obama is proposing to create or expand no fewer than seven such credits for individuals:

- A $500 tax credit ($1,000 a couple) to "make work pay" that phases out at income of $75,000 for individuals and $150,000 per couple.

- A $4,000 tax credit for college tuition.

- A 10% mortgage interest tax credit (on top of the existing mortgage interest deduction and other housing subsidies).

- A "savings" tax credit of 50% up to $1,000.

- An expansion of the earned-income tax credit that would allow single workers to receive as much as $555 a year, up from $175 now, and give these workers up to $1,110 if they are paying child support.

- A child care credit of 50% up to $6,000 of expenses a year.

- A "clean car" tax credit of up to $7,000 on the purchase of certain vehicles.

Here's the political catch. All but the clean car credit would be "refundable," which is Washington-speak for the fact that you can receive these checks even if you have no income-tax liability. In other words, they are an income transfer -- a federal check -- from taxpayers to nontaxpayers. Once upon a time we called this "welfare," or in George McGovern's 1972 campaign a "Demogrant." Mr. Obama's genius is to call it a tax cut.

The Tax Foundation estimates that under the Obama plan 63 million Americans, or 44% of all tax filers, would have no income tax liability and most of those would get a check from the IRS each year. The Heritage Foundation's Center for Data Analysis estimates that by 2011, under the Obama plan, an additional 10 million filers would pay zero taxes while cashing checks from the IRS.

The total annual expenditures on refundable "tax credits" would rise over the next 10 years by $647 billion to $1.054 trillion, according to the Tax Policy Center. This means that the tax-credit welfare state would soon cost four times actual cash welfare. By redefining such income payments as "tax credits," the Obama campaign also redefines them away as a tax share of GDP. Presto, the federal tax burden looks much smaller than it really is.

The political left defends "refundability" on grounds that these payments help to offset the payroll tax. And that was at least plausible when the only major refundable credit was the earned-income tax credit. Taken together, however, these tax credit payments would exceed payroll levies for most low-income workers.

It is also true that John McCain proposes a refundable tax credit -- his $5,000 to help individuals buy health insurance. We've written before that we prefer a tax deduction for individual health care, rather than a credit. But the big difference with Mr. Obama is that Mr. McCain's proposal replaces the tax subsidy for employer-sponsored health insurance that individuals don't now receive if they buy on their own. It merely changes the nature of the tax subsidy; it doesn't create a new one.

There's another catch: Because Mr. Obama's tax credits are phased out as incomes rise, they impose a huge "marginal" tax rate increase on low-income workers. The marginal tax rate refers to the rate on the next dollar of income earned. As the nearby chart illustrates, the marginal rate for millions of low- and middle-income workers would spike as they earn more income.

Some families with an income of $40,000 could lose up to 40 cents in vanishing credits for every additional dollar earned from working overtime or taking a new job. As public policy, this is contradictory. The tax credits are sold in the name of "making work pay," but in practice they can be a disincentive to working harder, especially if you're a lower-income couple getting raises of $1,000 or $2,000 a year. One mystery -- among many -- of the McCain campaign is why it has allowed Mr. Obama's 95% illusion to go unanswered.

Here's the chart mentioned in the article... Image

Sorry to post so much so soon this morning but I've read a couple of good articles this morning...

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articl ... ility.html

In this campaign, partisans find it difficult to stay faithful to their principles from one news cycle to another.

One minute, Republicans oppose affirmative action; the next, they're using it to pick their party's vice presidential nominee. One minute, Democrats are praising working-class Americans who live outside Washington; the next, they're trying to discredit one of them when she dares to run against them on the Republican ticket.

Recently, a self-identified Democrat informed me that Sarah Palin was an unacceptable choice for vice president because our elected officials should embody the highest standards of excellence, and not simply be someone with whom you'd like to have a beer.

Mischievously, I wrote back: "Fair enough. So I can assume that, in 1992, you voted for Republican George H.W. Bush and not Democrat Bill Clinton?"

Democrats conveniently forget that Bush 41, with his lifetime of public service, had the more substantial resume. Clinton was dismissed by many pundits as an untested lightweight, especially in the area of foreign policy. One quip had it that the closest Clinton had come to foreign affairs was "having breakfast once at the International House of Pancakes." H. Ross Perot warned that elevating the governor of Arkansas to the presidency was like taking the owner of a mom-and-pop store and making him the CEO of Wal-Mart.

But Clinton had an ace up his sleeve -- likability. It's something that graduate school professors might gloss over when they lecture about leadership. The elites tend to downplay its importance in favor of other attributes such as intelligence, compassion, decisiveness, or what Bush 41 glibly referred to as the "vision thing." Yet, this one quality can be more helpful than all the others put together when it comes time to close the deal with voters.

In the end, Clinton was to many voters more likable than either of his opponents. He may have been a Rhodes scholar and a graduate of Yale Law School, but what his campaign honed was his ability to relate to everyday Americans. In politics, that is money in the bank.

Now, polls show Obama with a slight lead over McCain, and the Republican is powerless to do anything about it. It seems that when McCain is too soft on Obama, he slips in the polls. And if he's too hard on him, he slips even further.

Many Americans believe that Obama has gotten the better of McCain in the debates. In a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey conducted after the second match-up, 54 percent of respondents said that Obama performed better. Only 30 percent said that about McCain. After the first debate on Sept. 26, the same survey found that 51 percent thought Obama did a better job, and 38 percent gave the nod to McCain.

I submit this has something to do with the fact that, to many voters, Obama has emerged as the more likable candidate. After the second debate, 64 percent of respondents had a favorable opinion of Obama; 51 percent said that about McCain. It probably didn't help when, in last week's debate, McCain pointed to Obama and referred to him as "that one."

McCain lost the first debate in part because he was dismissive and disrespectful. He wouldn't even look at Obama and address him directly, even when moderator Jim Lehrer had asked both candidates to speak to one another. McCain lost the second debate because, in going negative, he came across as sour, petty, and desperate.

In the poll, 63 percent said they thought McCain spent more time on the attack during the second debate, as opposed to just 17 percent who said that about Obama. And by a wide margin -- more than 15 points -- most respondents said that McCain came across as more the "typical politician."

You would think that candidates for elective office, particularly those such as McCain who have spent so much time in politics, would have a better understanding of what debates are really about. Candidates often mistake these events for opportunities to take their opponent down a notch and show everyone how smart they are.

But debates aren't a quiz. They're an audition. The candidates are trying out for a job that will put them in our living rooms for at least the next four years and perhaps longer. And then, depending on how likable they are, we get to decide whether we want to invite them in.

Why? All bullshit aside, he has a striking resemblance to that doll (But I do understand the dirty overtones the people are trying to get across.) Just like McCain looks like he just crawled out of a casket. Biden looks like Alfred from the old Batman series, and Palin is just plain hot.

It's pretty well known that the monkey association has been often used in racist terms. That's just not something that should be done.

I don't see the racist association. The man bears a striking resemblance to that doll. Racism is the belief that one race is superior to another. I don't see that association when comparing the man's physical appearance to that of a doll. I understand that the person's intentions are to degrade, but I think it falls short considering that monkeys are probably smarter than a portion of people on both sides of the aisle!!!

Dan, if you seriously believe the old white dude in that video had any intentions, other than to be racist, you're not half as intelligent as you should be! The guy was straight out of central casting for the poster child of a racist! I'm not here to defend Obama, because I actually agree with you on some of your points, regarding some of his associates. Certainly the Reverend Wright thing should disturb EVERYONE, as the guy is a fucking nutbag! I just think taking it to a racist level proves what I've said all along about this country...Racism is alive and well. Take the monkey out of the equation, and turn up the volume, while watching the video. There are several of these people telling Obama to "Go back to Kenya", and making comments about Africa.

Hey, I've gotten my share of "gyros" jokes and "Be careful of Greeks bearing gifts." Not to mention my all-time favorite..."How do they separate the men from the boys in Greece?" "With a crowbar."   None of which bother me. But yeah, the shit toward black people is far worse and often violent.

Hey noble one. That video had people saying "Barry Hussein Obama." Did you not say those exact same words here? You always referenced him as "Barry" and used "Hussein" multiple times and connected him with Socialism and terrorism. YOU are fucking pathetic.

My Palin comments are for the most part dead on. Firing people for family and personal reasons, because you have power is the definition of "bitch." Her lying, endless lying, her despicable comments are other reasons she retains a bitch moniker.

Wrong again. There are more Democrats than Republicans and that number is growing.

It sure is. The inner cities are getting filled with more and more trash. That's the democratic base. Always has been.

The inner cities are getting more full, because the inept economic policies of Bush have forced many from suburbia to the city. The city sucks. Lula loves it, I hate it. Something is going to have to give on that one.

The "base" you speak of for the Democrats is not wholly accurate. That is a faction, however this year the base for Obama is anyone floundering in economic mud, not just crack using Nigerians from south Chicago.
