Skylorde wrote:In my opinion, the right & left are guilty of indoctrination of youth to some extent. The left has been particularly visible this election with things like the YouTube video of kids singing praises to Obama.....creepily Hitleresque.

Our kids are influenced politically by their parents simply by the mere fact they spend a great deal of time around us. I've tried very hard to let my 16 year old form his own opinions, in spite of the fact he's always asking me what mine are.

I think he gets it though. The other day he said "Societies and Governments ultimately implode under their own weight anyway, why stress about what you can't control?"

I think he gets it now. :) :) :)

I agree with your assessment on both sides being guilty of involving young children. Someone posted a youtube clip somewhere in this thread of children singing the praises of Obama, and I attacked that just the same way (and these were children far younger than 16).

I applaud your approach as a dad with your 16 year old. You're absolutely correct that children can't help but be influenced by how we feel. That said, I think most of them form their own opinions (that aren't necessarily consistent with our own) by the time they become adults. I can tell you that my political and religious views don't match those of most of my family's views.

At the end of the day, this entire American poltical system is REALLY fucked up. Obama shouldn't be allowed to outspend McCain to the tune of 3 to 1 or whatever it is. Also, I personally would have liked to see a McCain 30 minute infomercial, but he couldn't afford the airtime. It's simply not the way things should be done. The American political system is in DIRE need of reform!

Any more personal attacks, whether directed AT or responding TO will result in this thread getting locked. Debate the canidates and their "platforms", and leave it at that.

Before the motorcade of U-haul trucks leave the White House, Bush continues his last ditch assault on safety standards.
Again, this happens EVERY time there is a Republican/Conservative president.
Why this story, (as well as the news of him relaxing safe water drinking standards), isn't the lead-in to every newscast in America, is beyond disturbing.

Sorry the little man isn't feeling so well, Lula. I'd tell you to give him some cold medicine but it seems the doctors aren't allowing us to do that any longer.

When your candidate gets in, the world will fix itself and he'll drop a giant sack of cash to your door. Oh yeah, and free healthcare. Just don't plan on using it since the type you'll get is the kind where you go in for an appendectomy and they remove your testicles instead. Oh yeah, and they leave two sponges and a syringe inside of you.

He'll have many more doors to visit after corporations pack up and move to foreign lands with tax breaks like Ireland.
I live close to an Industrial trade park which lures such companies with huge tax breaks for X-amount of years. These companies move their machinery in on wheels, knowing they will only be here until their break is over...then everything gets loaded onto one of those giant cargo planes to their next taxbreak destination, with the US being a less likely suitor with Barry O in power. Less jobs/more unemployment/more government unemployment checks issued hence, YOUR taxes going up. Nobama is selling a pipedream.

According to the Bush Treasury Department, the US has the second lowest business tax in the world and according to the GAO, two-thirds of US corporations pay no federal income tax at all.
They have no allegiance to flag or country beyond fattening their quarter profits.
Working to revoke the doctrine of corporate personhood should be one of President Obama's first orders of business.

I'm not an expert on the corporate tax structure but the following information is interesting and I think we actually might agree on this one...

The U.S. corporate tax burden is smaller than average for developed countries.[1] Corporations in 19 of the member states of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development paid 16.1 percent of their profits in taxes between 2000 and 2005, on average, while corporations in the United States paid 13.4 percent.

Nevertheless, some have argued that U.S. corporate tax rates unduly burden U.S. companies by pointing to the country’s top statutory tax rate, which is 35 percent. For example, a recent Wall Street Journal editorial calling for corporate tax cuts noted that this is the second highest top statutory tax rate among developed countries.[2] While true, this gives the false impression that the corporate tax burden is greater here than in other developed countries. Because the U.S. tax code offers so many deductions, credits, and other mechanisms by which corporations can reduce their taxes, the actual percentage of profits that U.S. corporations pay in taxes — or what analysts refer to as their effective tax rate — is not high, compared to other developed countries.

Because the average U.S. corporate tax burden is low, many economists believe a revenue-neutral corporate tax reform that reduces statutory corporate tax rates, while broadening the tax base by eliminating costly tax breaks, could improve economic efficiency and likely benefit the U.S. economy.

It looks like all of the so-called experts are now weighing in with their predictions. Interestingly enough, this is a bi-partisan group and only one of them is predicting a McCain victory. TaxFoundation goes with official tax rate, not the actual one after loopholes and subsidies are taken into account.
But don't take my word for it, take it from the Treasury Department of most rabidly right wing administration in history..

So who's your candidate?
Bush I, who rasised taxes?
Reagan, who also spent billions like a wastrel?
Nixon, who signed affirmative action?
Your hardline quibbles notwithstanding, this has been the administration of Rush Limbaugh.
No doubt about it.
